Hong Kong won a historic junior contest in Astana

Hong Kong won a historic contest in the second session of the first competition day at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen are the participating nations in Astana.

Altogether 147 youth men, 73 youth women, 137 junior men and 78 junior women boxers are participating in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

Amgalanbaatar won the first contest of the second session

The Mongolians won the first contest of the evening session in Astana, their Bulgankhuu Amgalanbaatar was too strong for Hong Kong’s Tang Kit Fu who almost competed until the last gong. The Mongolian bantamweight (54kg) boxer landed the stronger punches in this contest and won their meeting by RSC. Thailand’s Apichit Chaemdi used a smart strategy against India’s Nenthok Hodong in the next bout and he succeeded despite this was his first ever international contest during his career.

Babajanov defeated a neighbouring rival

Turkmenistan’s Seyitjan Babajanov was born in a boxing family and he had a perfect start against Tajikistan’s Shodmekhr Davlatov with a standing count. The 15cm smaller Tajik opened the second round in different rhythm and he caught Turkmenistan’s Junior National Champion but Babajanov also increased his tempo immediately. Turkmenistan’s new sensation used his longer hands effectively and he eliminated his neighbouring rival with technician performance.

Philippines and Uzbekistan won featherweight contests

Philippines’ John Steven Demaisip is a new addition to their junior national team but he proved that his technical skills are absolutely on the top. The Filipino talent controlled most of the exchanges against Tajikistan’s Abdulloh Karimzoda and after Payla, he became his nation’s second winner in Astana. Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Rakhmatullayev looked two-times faster than Iran’s Saro Kasnazani in the first round and he took the lead on the scorecards. The 16-year-old Uzbek followed the strong tactics of his older compatriots, and his motivation guaranteed his success.

Jordan’s Akram Zeaeh celebrated his emotional success

Jordan’s Akram Zeaeh attacked without any stoppage in the first round and the referee from Fiji counted his opponent, Mongolia’s Tengis Amarjarggal following his heavy shots. The new junior lightweight (60kg) boxer from Jordan worked a lot on feet in the first and second rounds to build up his strong advantage. The Mongolian made a remarkable final round but he was not able to turn back their spectacular contest in the evening session.

Hong Kong’s historic junior success was achieved by Wong Kei Laam

Hong Kong returned to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships after ten years of break and the country had a debutant boxer today, Wong Kei Laam. The junior light welterweight (63.5kg) talent faced United Arab Emirates’ Nahyan Al-Ghafri in the first preliminary round and both felt that this is a wonderful opportunity to win an international contest. The boxer from the UAE had a 3:2 advantage on the scorecards after two minutes but Wong stepped into the gas in the beginning of the second. The taller Wong landed decisive shots in the second round and the referee confirmed his historic RSC triumph.

Tagir Satayev lost his unbeaten record series in 2023

Kazakhstan’s Tagir Satayev won the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup in Azerbaijan as the opener of the year and he remained unbeaten until the start of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The 16-year-old boxer from the city of Uralsk was nervous in the first round and he did not find the best fighting distance against India’s Moirangthem Kabiraj Singh. Satayev maintained the range better in the beginning of the second and he equalized the result in all of the scorecards. Three out of the five judges favored the Indian in the last round therefore Singh delivered a huge surprise with his unexpected success. 

Iran had great moments in the evening session

Iran’s Amirmohammad Rostampour had a tough first round against Chinese Taipei’s quick Lin Chia Wei in their light welterweight (63kg) contest. The Iranian moved forward in the second round and he survived the dangerous moments in the third to win a tight bout in the evening session. His teammate, Mohammad Saleh Mesbahi Rouzbahani shocked his Uzbek opponent, Alpomish Matkarimov with his effective long-range tactics in the first round. The Iranian knocked down the Uzbek in the second and he had the strong performance in the third to eliminate his opponent with world-class level of boxing.

Stars as Boltayev and Mursal stopped their rivals

Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltayev won several big championships in the previous four years and he needed less than two minutes to stop Turkmenistan’s Timur Gayadov in the preliminary of the youth welterweight (67kg). Another star of the weight class, the Youth World Championships silver medallist Nurbek Mursal also spent less than one round in the ring against Yemen’s Esmail Al-Qassimi.

Chuang and Bagtyyarov eliminated strong rivals

Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chuan Hung is a small boxer at the youth welterweight (67kg) but he has an aggressive style which paid off in the preliminary round against Mongolia’s Unubold Erdenebayar. The Mongolian adopted the fighting style but Chuang was better in that game play and the boxer from Chinese Taipei moved forward to the quarter-finals. Turkmenistan’s Yhlas Bagtyyarov is a not a well-known name in the international competitions but he had a superb performance against India’s Yogesh Pawar at the middleweight (75kg).
