Gold medal contenders in the Kazakh team at the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships
The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be starting in Bangkok, Thailand on July 1 where Asia’s boxing powers meet each other once again. Kazakhstan will be sending 10-strong team to the event and among them seven athletes are already achieved medals in the AIBA or in the Asian continental competitions.
Kazakhstan hosted the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and their squad took six gold medals in the front of the home crowd. Among their titleholders Nurdaulet Ulanuly will be there also in Bangkok to defend his throne at the super heavyweight (+91kg).
Akmola region’s Timur Kabdeshov won the Kazakh Youth National Games in May and the strong Khromov Junior Tournament in Russia therefore he is at least medal contender at the light flyweight (49kg) in Bangkok. He lost to his main rival Uzbekistan’s Samandar Kholmurodov in an international event but he is ready to do revenge in Thailand.
Almaty region’s Aybek Dosanov won the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent and claimed bronze in the 2015 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg therefore he is among the favourites of the flyweight (52kg). Pavlodar region’s Bakhtiyar Smagulov won the Kazakh Youth National Games and will be there in the start of the event in Bangkok.
Almaty’s 17-year-old Samatali Toltayev achieved silver medal in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg and after that he won all of his contests therefore he is the main favourite of the lightweight (60kg) in Bangkok. His twin brother ASBC Asian Junior Champion Sanatali Toltayev also won all of his contests in 2017 and will be meeting with his main rival Uzbekistan’s Bilolbek Mirzarakhimov in Bangkok. Sanatali lost to his Uzbek star rival in Russia eight months ago therefore he is motivated to do better in Thailand.
West Kazakhstan’s Children of Asia Games winner top talent Yermakhan Zhakpekov will be turning to 17 only in November but he is among the main favourites of the welterweight (69kg). Astana’s Ayat Marzhikpayev, who came from a boxing family, was also born in 2000 as Zhakpekov but the Children of Asia Games silver medallist young talent could be a surprise at the middleweight (75kg) in Bangkok.
Dzhambul’s Eldiyar Kamchibekov claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships but since then his skills developed well and will be among the gold medal contenders of the light heavyweight (81kg). Kostanay’s Danila Semenov replaced Children of Asia Games winner Aibek Oralbay in the final minute and will be making his debut in the big events in Bangkok.
Nurdaulet Ulanuly will be arriving to Bangkok as defending champion of the super heavyweight (+91kg) and his objective is to defend his throne in Thailand. Ulanuly achieved only silver medal at the Kazakh Youth National Games in May but he received the right to box for his country once again.
