Gankhuyag, Kharkhuu, Tsendbaatar and Baatarsukh are the most potential boxers of the Mongolian team in the Asian Games

As the best nations of the continent the Mongolian Boxing Federation also sends maximum number of 7 men and 3 women boxers to the forthcoming Asian Games to Indonesia. Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag, Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu, Erdenebat Tsendbaatar and Chinzorig Baatarsukh are their most potential boxers to win at least a medal in the Asian Games.
Mongolia claimed several medals in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games and in the AIBA World Boxing Championships and their athletes are strong in spite of the low number of boxers in the country. Mongolia achieved its first ever gold medal in the history of the boxing tournament of the Asian Games only in Incheon four years ago when Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai won their first title.
The Mongolian team attended at the Arziyev Brothers Tournament in Kyrgyzstan, at the Korotkov Memorial Tournament in Russia, at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup at the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup, and at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament during their preparation to the Asian Games.
Jargalan Ochirbat claimed bronze medal in the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and moved up to the flyweight (51kg) due the Asian Games. The 23-year-old talent, who is famous of her rapid attacks, will be representing Mongolia in Jakarta following she was selected to take part instead of veteran Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam.
Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag was gold medallist in the 2012 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships but since then she moved up three categories and will be attending at the featherweight (57kg) in the Asian Games. The third Mongolian female boxer will be a 19-year-old talent Namuun Monkhor who achieved bronze medal in the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships.
Mongolia’s light flyweight (49kg) boxer will be Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu who has got strong family connections to the sport and received the right to box for his country in a major challenge at the very first time. Rio 2016 Olympian Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag took silver medal in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and will be making his debut at the flyweight (52kg) in Jakarta.
Rio 2016 Olympian and Summer Universiade winner Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu had successful preparation events before the start of the Asian Games and he was named as one of the favourites of the bantamweight (56kg) in Jakarta. His teammate Rio 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Erdenebat Tsendbaatar is in top shape also who has got all of the skills to replace their Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai in the same level.
Rio 2016 Olympian and ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Chinzorig Baatarsukh is in his best age to produce something important in the upcoming Asian Games. The 27-year-old Mongolian light welterweight (64kg) boxer won the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok where he defeated the Asian Games titleholder Wuttichai Masuk of Thailand as well.
Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar is a 22-year-old boxer who replaced two-time Olympian Byamba Tuvshinbat at the welterweight (69kg) and the upcoming Asian Games will be his first big international competition. The 10th member of the travelling team is National Champion Davaanyam Davaasuren at the men’s middleweight (75kg) who has been competing in the international stage since 2012.
