Fourteen new winners at the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships

The Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships proved the strong development of the country’s grassroots program which began a few years ago. Their new wave of talents as Roskam Faizi, Fazlidin Ataee, Hasibullah Hejran and Hamid Hakimi could be their next international boxers while their most experienced schoolboy, Shirzai Mohammadi dominated his weight category.

Afghanistan achieved two bronze medals in the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships one and half year ago and their boxers amazed the experts with their stamina and fighting spirit. Fourteen boxers won the titles after the last competition day from the 35kg weight category up to the +70kg division.

Kabul welcomed all of the best young boxers of the provinces of the country in their 2020 Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships. Boxers who were born in 2006 and in 2007, were eligible to attend in the new edition of the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships in Kabul.

Following the regional pre-selections, more than 300 young boxers received the right to attend in the new edition of the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships which was held after their elite and junior events. The President of the Afghanistan Boxing Federation Mr. Abdullah Sattari followed all of the bouts together with the Secretary General of the Afghanistan Boxing Federation Mr. Waheedullah Hameedi.

The first title of the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships was taken by Shahab Salah who defeated Saifullah Jawed in the smallest weight category at the 35kg. Roskam Faizi had outstanding attitude in his contests and triumphed over Massoud Salar in the next final of the national event.

Fazlidin Ataee won the next difficult weight category at the 40kg where he had to do his very best to beat Yaser Farqan in the final. Abdul Qahr Melat achieved the next title in the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships following his success over Shir Mohammad Zahiri. Hasibullah Hejran also proved strong performance in the event and won the title of the pinweight (46kg) after beating Mohammad Tariq Nuzzi.

Abdulmatin Kamal (52kg), Hamid Hakimi (58kg) and Sefatullah Rahimi (61kg) also proved excellent style of boxing in the schoolboy national event. Afghanistan’s most experienced boxer in this age group, ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Shirzai Mohammadi dominated his final at the 64kg weight category over Mehdi Normand in Kabul and defended his throne.
