Dzhamshedzhon Gafurov worked sensationally in the Tajikistan Youth National Championships in Tursunzoda
The Tajikistan Youth National Championships was held in Tursunzoda which competition was a selection event for their future hopes. Tajikistan’s best boxer in this age group Dzhamshedzhon Gafurov defeated his top rival in the final and he showed he is ready to compete in the big events in 2018.
The event was held in Dushanbe where boxers who were born in 2000 and in 2001 were eligible to compete in the Tajikistan Youth National Championships. Tajikistan has been preparing to the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in April.
Altogether 85 men boxers competed in the Tajikistan Youth National Championships in Tursunzoda in ten weight classes. Tokhirjon Yuldashev competed in the Kenes Omarov Youth Tournament in Taraz and his international experiences paid off when he won the first title in the national event following his triumph over Dushanbe’s Shokhin Nursatzoda in the final of the light flyweight (49kg).
Akmal Ubaydov was quarter-finalist in the last edition of the Tajikistan Youth National Championships and he missed to get medals in other events but this time he was in top shape at the flyweight (52kg). The 17-year-old boxer had hard road to the finals but he was able to beat also Youth National Championships bronze medallist Alijon Khoshimov for the title.
Khudjand’s Akim Prizes Youth Cup winner Dzhamshedzhon Gafurov is the most experienced youth boxer in Tajikistan in the international level but he needed to do all of his very best to beat his tough rivals at the bantamweight (56kg). Following his experiences in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, Children of Asia Games and other events he was able to beat Badakhshan’s Romid Orifshoyev, Youth National Cup winner Shaydo Shermamadov and Youth National Champion Khudoynazar Malakhbekov in the final of the event.
Dushanbe’s Akim Prizes Youth Cup bronze medallist Ilkhom Nazirov delivered one of the biggest sensations of the Tajikistan Youth National Championships. The 17-year-old lightweight (60kg) defeated AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships competitor Bekhruz Nazaromonov and Issyk-Kul Junior Cup silver medallist Abdurakhmon Yokubov who is member of the national team.
Khudjand’s Abdukhamid Khamitov competed in the Aytenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kazakhstan last year and his skills were enough to beat Dushanbe’s Maruf Kholmatov in the final of the light welterweight (64kg). Kholmatov moved down one category since the last edition of the Tajikistan Youth National Championships and with his silver he reached his career highlight.
Sughd region’s Akim Prizes Youth Cup silver medallist Mukhammadali Abdurakhmonov was the titleholder of the welterweight (69kg) in the Tajikistan Youth National Championships but he had such a strong rival in the final as Junior National Champion Abdumalik Boltayev who is the best Tajik boxer in the 2001 age group. Abdurakhmanov was slightly better this time and defeated his younger rival by split decision in Tursunzoda.
Dushanbe’s Faridun Egamberdiyev was also titleholder in the Tajikistan Youth National Championships as Abdurakhmanov and following his tough performance he defeated Bokhtar’s Ramoil Kurbonov in the final of the middleweight (75kg). Dushanbe’s Youth National Championships bronze medallist Nabi Abduganiyev secured the next title following his triumph over Sughd region’s Sobirjon Saidakhmadov in the light heavyweight (81kg).
Islombek Aliyev and Sughd region’s Saidabdullo Sarmusokov both won gold medals in the last edition of the Tajikistan Youth National Championships and now they competed in the same category. Aliyev used his strong combinations and stamina to beat his rival in the final of the heavyweight (91kg) and defended his throne. Dushanbe’s Junior National Champion Mukhammad Abroridinov was too strong for Faridun Samiyev in the final of the super heavyweight (+91kg) and captured the gold in Tursunzoda.
