Dorjnyambuu Ganbold and Aldarkhishig Battulga were the top winners at the Mongolian U22 National Selection Tournament

Following the Mongolian Youth National Championships, and the Elite National Selection Tournament, another competition was held in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. Their U22 National Selection Tournament delivered excellent bouts in two female and six male weight categories.

Mongolia missed the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy but their best boxers will compete in Bangkok and also at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Sodon-Od Binderiya claimed a bronze medal in the 2023 Mongolian Elite National Championships and she competed at the Elorda Cup in Kazakhstan as well. She defeated the East Asian Youth Games silver medallist Batsaikhan Saruul in an excellent contest therefore she will represent Mongolia at the women’s minimumweight (48kg).

Chinbat Ariunzul was member of their youth national team last year and she competed in several international competitions as well. She met another teenager in the final of the women’s bantamweight (54kg) but she managed to beat Unenbat Anar by 3:2 split decision.

Aldarkhishig Battulga was silver medallist at the Mongolian Elite National Championships and he competed at the Cologne Boxing World Cup in 2023. He knew his flyweight (51kg) final opponent Lkhagvadorj Davaadorj well enough and Battulga used the best strategy to beat his main U22 rival by split decision.

The Asian U22 bronze medallist Dorjnyambuu Ganbold is the Elite National Champion at the men’s featherweight (57kg), and he is Mongolia’s best hope in Astana. He defeated Khashkhuu Otgonsukh a few months ago and he was able to do the same on their repeat match in Ulaanbaatar.

The Youth National Champion Ulemj Baasandash was the favourite at the men’s lightweight (60kg) but he suffered a loss to Ganbaatar Gan-Erdene in the U22 National Selection Tournament. The light welterweight (63.5kg) was won by Damdindorj Purevdorj who had a strong performance against Choijilsuren Burenduuren in the final.

Askhar Jandos was bronze medallist in the last Mongolian Elite National Championships in 2023 and he had the same result at the Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Tashkent two years ago. The experienced boxer moved back to the welterweight (67kg) and he had to do his very best against a competitive final opponent, Baatarbileg Nergui.

Sainchuluun Javkhlanbayar competed in many national events in the previous two years and he had the skills to beat Khurelbaatar Gan-Erdene at the light middleweight (71kg).
