Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 5

The quarter-finals of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 fired off with 27 sensational bouts on November 5 in Amman, Jordan.

Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea and Uzbekistan secured at least a bronze medal as their boxers advanced to the semifinals.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam are the other participating nations.

Mr. Angel Villarreal of the United States is serving as the Technical Delegate of the tournament and working with him are 10 ITO’s along with 17 Referee-Judges.

Here are some highlights from Day 5:

Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Sena Irie of Japan unleashed an aggressive attack against two-time world champion Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei to pull off a 4-1 victory in their highly-anticipated women’s featherweight (57kg) match.

Irie’s top rival and Olympic silver finisher Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines nipped Nilawan Techasuep of Thailand via split decision to also enter the semifinals.

Mongolia seized the first medal of the tournament after veteran Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg survived Uzbekistan’s former Asian junior champ Feruza Kazakova, 3-2, in the women’s flyweight (52kg) division.

Defending world champions Saken Bibossynov of Kazakhstan and Tomoya Tsuboi of Japan sustained their fiery runs in the men’s flyweight (51kg) class as they dispatched their opponents from Malaysia and Chinese Taipei, respectively.

Rio Olympics gold medalist and two-time Asian elite titlist Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan also kept his momentum going in men’s flyweight after decimating Bhutan’s Tenzin Drugyel, 5-0.

Women’s World Championships multi-medalist Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan added another medal to her name as the 33-year-old pugilist pounded Hana Narita of Japan, 5-0, in bantamweight (54kg).

Thailand’s world silver winner Jutamas Jitpong came up with a methodical 4-1 win against Uzbekistan’s youth world champion Nigina Uktamova in women’s bantamweight.

World bronze finisher Lovlina Borgohain of India, who is also the current head of the IBA Athletes’ Committee, sneaked past ex-world champ Valentina Khalzova of Kazakhstan via split decision in women’s middleweight (75kg).

South Korea’s Jeong Hae Deun delivered one of the fastest victories in the continental tilt as she stopped Jordan’s Randa Abushairah just two minutes into their women’s light welterweight (63kg) bout.
