Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 4

Thirty (30) thrilling bouts were witnessed on the fourth and final day of preliminaries in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 in Amman, Jordan. The winning boxers advanced to the quarterfinals which are set to take place on November 5 to 7.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 27 participating countries.

Mr. Angel Villarreal of the United States is serving as the Technical Delegate of the tournament and working with him are 10 ITO’s along with 17 Referee-Judges.

Here are some highlights from Day 4:

Rio Olympics champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan continued his quest for a third Asian elite title, trouncing Thailand’s former youth world winner Thitisan Panmod, 5-0, in the flyweight (51kg) division.

The 29-year-old Hasanboy, who is also a silver finisher in the AIBA World Championships 2017 and Asian Games 2018, bagged his Asian elite gold medals back in 2015 and 2017.

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Carlo Paalam of the Philippines made a triumphant return to the international stage despite moving up to bantamweight (54kg) as he outclassed Turkmenistan’s Dovlet Muhanov, 5-0.

Kazakhstan’s reigning youth world and Asian champ Sanzhar Tashkenbay kept on impressing in his major elite tournament debut after a 5-0 crushing of Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 winner Asilbek Jalilov in the minimumweight (48kg) class.

World silver finisher and former youth star Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan notched an easy 5-0 victory over Iraq’s Mohammed Anwer Jasem Makassees in featherweight (57kg).

Tajikistan’s 2019 Asian champion Bakhodur Usmonov sustained his bid to reclaim the title as he edged out Southeast Asian Games winner Somchay Wongsuwan of Thailand, 3-2, in light welterweight (63.5kg). Bhutan’s Tenzin Drugyel (fly), South Korea’s Seon Suk Jun (light middle-71kg), India’s Sachin Dalal (light middle), Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri (welter-67kg) and Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuliyev (light welter) also delivered remarkable performances in the last day of preliminaries.
