Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 11 (Men’s Finals)

New champions emerged as action-packed bouts in the men’s finals of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 happened on November 12 in Amman, Jordan.

Uzbekistan defended its men’s title after taking home five gold medals while Kazakhstan finished second with three golds.

Host nation Jordan and Thailand grabbed two golds each even as the Philippines seized one.

Kazakhstan’s reigning youth world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay bagged his first Asian elite title at the age of 19 after decimating Japan’s Asian U22 silver medalist Kazuma Aratake, 5-0, in the minimumweight (48kg) division.

Rio Olympics champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan finally got his revenge against World Championships 2021 tormentor and eventual winner Saken Bibossynov of Kazakhstan, pulling off a 4-1 victory in their tight flyweight (51kg) fight for his third Asian gold.

Tokyo Olympics silver finisher Carlo Paalam delivered the Philippines’ lone gold following his 15-month break as he downed Kazakhstan’s world silver winner Makhmud Sabyrkhan, 4-1, in bantamweight (54kg).

Uzbekistan’s former youth star Abdumalik Khalakov ruled the featherweight (57kg) after beating fellow world silver medalist and top seed Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan, 4-1.

Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh gave Jordan its first gold, posting a  5-0 rout against lightweight (60kg) final rival Buyandalai Bayarkhuu of Mongolia in front of the home crowd.

Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 champion Ruslan Abdullayev sustained his stellar career this year after coming through with a second-round RSCI win over Asian record holder Shiva Thapa of India in light welterweight (63.5kg).

Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri also kept his winning ways in 2022 as the Southeast Asian Games and Thailand Open gold winner edged out Kazakhstan’s Dulat Bekbauov via split decision in welterweight (67kg).

Kazakhstan’s Asian Games silver medalist Aslanbek Shymbergenov captured his first Asian elite gold with a 3-2 stunner over Jordan’s No. 1 seed Zeyad Eshaish in light middleweight (71kg).

Uzbekistan’s Saidjamshid Jafarov retained his middleweight (75kg) throne after unloading heavy punches and sharp jabs against Kazakhstan’s Nurkanat Raiys for a 5-0 romp.

Jordan’s veteran boxer Hussein Iashaish produced another golden moment for the host, turning back Uzbekistan’s Odiljon Aslonov, 4-1, in light heavyweight (80kg).

SEA Games Jakkapong Yomkhot of Thailand shocked a more experienced pug in Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi of Jordan with a 4-1 decision in cruiserweight (86kg).

Former Youth Olympics champion Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan cruised to an easy 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan’s world silver medalist Madiyar Saydrakhimov in heavyweight (92kg). Ex-Asian youth titlist Lazizbek Mullojonov punctuated Uzbekistan’s successful title defense as he trounced Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev, 5-0, in super heavyweight (+92kg). Kunkabayev settled for a fourth straight silver after losing to an Uzbek foe again.
