Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 1

27 countries are participating in the ASBC Asian Elite Championships in Amman, Jordan. They are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hongkong, India, Iran, Japan, JOrdan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Syria, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Opening day on November 1 saw 17 exciting matches after simple but colorful Opening Ceremonies led by ASBC President Pichai Chunhavajira.

Technical Delegate for the tournament is Mr. Angel Villareal of the United States. Working with him are 10 ITO’s and 17 Referee-Judges.

Some highlights:

Host nation Jordan’s top boxer Zeyad Eshaish came through with a shocking 4-1 victory over Japan’s reigning world champion Sewon Okazawa.

Asian Games bronze medalist Eshaish stepped up when it mattered most, landing telling punches in the crucial third round to upset Okazawa in the light middleweight (71kg) division.

AIBA World Championships 2021 silver winner Abdumalik Khalakov and reigning Asian youth champion Ruslan Abdullayev ignited the men’s title defense of Uzbekistan.

Khalakov, also a former Youth World and Youth Olympics gold medalist, reasserted his mastery over Thailand’s ASBC youth winner Sarawut Sukthet with a 3-2 split decision in the featherweight (57kg) division.

Abdullayev then crushed Shunsuke Kitamotoof Japan, 5-0, for a rousing debut in the light welterweight (63.5kg) class.

Kyrgyzstan’s defending Asian youth champ Nuradin Rustambek Uulu forced a first round stoppage against Bhutan’s Thinley in light middleweight while Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu drubbed Chinese Taipei’s Kan Chia Wei, 5-0, in middleweight (75kg).

Turkmenistan enjoyed a victorious return in the Asian Elite Championships after World Championships 2019 veteran Yhlas Gylychjanov (feather) and young star Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (light middle) crushed their respective foes.

Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod (fly-51kg), Mongolia’s Byambatsogt Tuguldur (light welter) and India’s Lakshya Chahar (light heavy-80kg) also enjoyed a triumphant start in the continental meet.

Preliminary bouts will end on November 4.
