Chinese Taipei’s three AIBA Women’s World Champions as Huang Hsiao Wen, Lin Yu Ting and Chen Nien Chin won their President’s Cup

The National President’s Cup was held in Chinese Taipei for their elite female and male boxers which is their most important competition every year. Chinese Taipei’s top female stars as the AIBA Women’s World Champion trio Huang Hsiao Wen, Lin Yu Ting and Chen Nien Chin all won their weight classes in the President’s Cup.

Chinese Taipei is one of the strongest boxing nations in the female part of the sport, three of their boxers became champion in the recent two editions of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The President’s Cup is their biggest national event where high number of boxers attended for the medals and titles.

As all of the teams in our continent, Chinese Taipei has been preparing to the re-scheduled Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event which will be taking place in Amman, Jordan on March 3-11. Their best women boxers are aiming for Olympic spots in the Qualifiers while their male hopes have got also chance to reach places for Tokyo.

The first female title of the President’s Cup was achieved by AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Lin Pei Fang who triumphed over Chen Yi Jou in the final of the light flyweight (48kg). Another younger talent, Wang Ching Hsin became the second champion in the President’s Cup who succeeded in the final of the flyweight (51kg) against Chen Tzu Hsuan.

AIBA Women’s World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen competed at the bantamweight (54kg) as in Ulan-Ude and dominated her final against Chen Chin Lien using her longer reach successfully. Budapest 2018 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Tao Ying Yu is a teenage hope in Chinese Taipei who claimed her first elite national title following her success over Lin Chiao Ling at the featherweight (57kg).

Another AIBA Women’s World Champion and ASBC Asian Women’s Champion boxer Lin Yu Ting competed at the lightweight (60kg) this time but she dominated her final securing her place in the Qualification Event. Wu Shih Yi claimed silver medal in the ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships last April and the 21-year-old talent was too strong for Ho Ssu Ping in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).

New Delhi’s 2018 AIBA Women’s World Champion and Rio 2016 Olympian Chen Nien Chin kept her top national place at the welterweight (69kg) and she is focusing to the Qualifiers after her few unexpected losses in 2019. Lin Ya Hsuan reached good junior and youth results in the recent years and those experiences finally paid off in her elite final against Chen Ssu Yu which means she could be Chinese Taipei’s boxer at the women’s middleweight (75kg) during the international events in 2020.

FISU University World Boxing Championships silver medallist Tu Po Wei was the main favourite at the men’s flyweight (52kg) but he was unable to win his semi-final bout against Hung Chuan Hsun and achieved only bronze at the President’s Cup. The 20-year-old Hung had experiences from the recent ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships continued his winning path also in the final against Wang Sheng Tien.

The gold medallist at the men’s bantamweight (57kg) was Kapolri Cup silver medallist Li Cheng Wei who had a tough final against Huang Cheng Kai in the President’s Cup. The lightweight (63kg) is a new category due to the Olympic Games and the first winner in Chinese Taipei’s main national event was 18-year-old Chen Po Jung who triumphed over Li Nien Hua in the final.

In the absence of FISU University World Champion Pan Hung Min, Lo Chien Hsiang captured the gold medal of the men’s welterweight (69kg) after beating Wang Yu Chih. Li Sheng Ta has got international experiences which supported him to beat Wu Cheng Lin in the final of the middleweight (75kg). Huang Chi Wei attended in the 2016 Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event and his change to the light heavyweight (81kg) guaranteed for him a gold medal in the President’s Cup.
