Chinese Taipei’s four Tokyo Olympians dominated the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games

Chinese Taipei’s boxers returned to the trainings after the quarantine period a few months ago and following the smaller regional events, their Boxing Federation arranged a big national event in Taipei City. Chinese Taipei’s four Olympians as Huang Hsiao Wen, Lin Yu Ting, Wu Shih Yi and Chen Nien Chin all won their categories in the new national event.

The National Intercollegiate Athletic Games holds every year in Chinese Taipei and all of their top elite boxers compete in the event. Following the tough months, their best boxers decided to enter to the ring and continue the preparations before the international challenges. Chinese Taipei’s four girls qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

The women boxers could compete in seven weight classes in the event where all of their four Olympians won their categories. The first title was achieved by Lin Pei Fang who competed at the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships. The young talent won the light flyweight (48kg) while another future hope Wang Ching Hsin defeated Chen Zi Hsuan and bagged the title of the women’s flyweight (51kg).

A tall 23-year-old boxer, Huang Hsiao Wen is the defending AIBA Women’s World Champion at the bantamweight (54kg) who returned to that category and won the title in the national event. Tao Ying Yu is a younger talent who achieved the gold medal at the women’s featherweight (57kg) in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games.

One of the most technician female boxers in the whole globe, Lin Yu Ting is another AIBA Women’s World Champion who defeated Lin Chiao Ling using her long distance tactic in the final of the lightweight (60kg). Tokyo Olympian Wu Shih Yi defeated Ho Ssu Ping in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) while 2018 AIBA Women’s World Champion Chen Nien Chin controlled her final over Lin Ya Hsuan at the middleweight (75kg).

The men boxers competed in ten categories in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games and their No.1 Tu Po Wei won the flyweight (52kg) as expected. Chen Po Yi is another technician boxer who defeated Chen Bing Cong in the final of the bantamweight (56kg). Lin Yu Jun (60kg) and Hsieh Kai Yu (64kg) are also young talents in Chinese Taipei’s boxing life who both earned the gold medals in the national event.

Lo Chian Shiang defeated Lai Wei Cheng in the final of the men’s welterweight (69kg) and achieved his first top elite success. Kan Chia Wei moved up to the light heavyweight (81kg) but his four years of experiences in the international stage delivered for him a clear success in the event.
