China’s Li Qian dominated her semi-final over a Russian veteran

China’s Li Qian earned bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but since then she won all of her international and national contests. The 31-year-old Chinese middleweight (75kg) boxer advanced to the semi-finals once again in the Olympics and met with a veteran, Russian Olympic Committee’s Zenfira Magomedalieva. The Russian moved ahead but Li Qian controlled the first exchanges from longer range and proved that she is technically better than Magomedalieva. Li started the second round with a quick counter-punch and stopped the energetic Russian who tried to show more in the middle period.

Magomedalieva stepped into Li Qian’s best fighting range which was perfect for the Chinese boxer. Both of them received one warning in the second round and after six minutes of fight, Li Qian had strong advantage in each of the scorecard. Li has done two clean sweeps in the scoresheets and she looked fresh enough in the third round to win their semi-final by unanimous decision. The Chinese boxer will be meeting with Great Britain’s Lauren Price who eliminated Netherlands’ Nouchka Fontijn today.
