Chanthilath and Vongsathone earned gold medals at the 12th Laos National Games

The boxing tournament of the 12th Laos National Games was held at the National Gymnasium in their capital city, in Vientiane. Daomayuly Chanthilath delivered the best performance among the women boxers while Kamphouvanh Vongsathone earned the title in the most difficult men’s category.
Altogether 12 provinces competed in the Laos National Games which was a selection event for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games. The number of the women boxers was 22 in four weight categories and 58 male pugilists competed in eight divisions in Vientiane.
Police Club’s Daomayuly Chanthilath competed already at the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok and she returned with a gold medal to the national stage after beating Army’s Nouning Inthavong at the women’s minimumweight (48kg) final.
Buaphone Thoummavong claimed medals in the national events already in 2015 and after a long break she succeeded at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in the National Games. The Southeast Asian Games quarter-finalist Minavanh Oupaxa (57kg) of Army and Xoy Souvanthong (60kg) of Khammouane Province won the remaining female titles.
The men’s minimumweight (48kg) is the best category in Laos and their Army boxer, Kamphouvanh Vongsathone had the technical skills to beat Bounyalith Sithavong in the final of the National Games.
Vanesy Heuangthisouan is a 26-year-old flyweight (51kg) boxer who represented Laos in the 2023 edition of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The boxer from the Khammouane Province remained on the top of the podium on his homeland following his success over Yi Pheung Yang of Vientiane.
Saravane Province’s Sithichack Soukhaserm was bronze medallist in the 2022 edition and he moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) successfully switching that result into a gold after his victory over Somnouk Siboonheuang.
Chanthapong Insixiengmai delivered the main surprise of the Games when he triumphed over the Asian Games competitor Souliya Khammy at the featherweight (57kg) final. Borikhamxay Province’s duo such as Sonexay Singhalamdy (60kg) and Somphane Chalounseng (67kg) earned titles in the Games.
Vientiane’s Phanin Xayyaseng had the experience to beat Thanousih Holapatiphone at the light welterweight (63.5kg) while Luang Prabang’s Thanouxay Tidsaphone (71kg) won the last final of the National Games.
