Bishal Shrestha was the best in the Nepal Youth National Selection Tournament

Nepal is a developing boxing country in the South Asian region but the Nepal Boxing Association has got great plans to increase the level of their athletes in the upcoming years. President of the Nepal Boxing Association Mr. Ram Awale decided to send boxers to all main international competitions therefore a selection competition was held for their men’s youth athletes in Kathmandu.
The Nepal Youth National Selection Tournament was held in three weight classes to decide their squad to the upcoming Bangkok event. The event was their last selection for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in July 1-7 and Nepal will be there with three boxers.
Midmar Gyalgen Sherpa trains in the capital city of the country in Kathmandu and delivered great style of boxing in the Youth National Selection Tournament. The 17-year-old boxer defeated Dinesh Lama in the semi-final and he was too strong for Palpa’s Sandesh Shrestha in the final of the flyweight (52kg). Following his serious punches the referee confirmed Sherpa’s RSC success before the final gong of their bout.
Jhapa’s Surendra Rai was the favourite in the second weight class of the Nepali Youth National Selection Tournament and he was able to realize his objective in the event. The 17-year-old boxer eliminated Central Boxing’s Anupam Shah in the semi-final and had to meet for the title with Boshi Gaun’s Rojin Rokka who eliminated Rupandehi’s Biskio Dwachcha in the second semi-final of the bantamweight (56kg). Rai was able to raise his tempo in the final and his efforts were enough to win his weight class in Kathmandu.
Central Boxing’s Bishal Shrestha was born only in 2000 and joined to the youth age group this January, but he proved one of the best performance in the Nepali Youth National Selection Tournament. The Kathmandu-based Bishal Shrestha competed at the 2016 Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia and those experiences were enough to beat Rupandehi’s Naresh Thapa in the final of the middleweight (75kg).
