Big surprises in the Tajikistan Junior National Championships

The Tajikistan Junior National Boxing Championships was held in the ancient city of Kulob which celebrated its 2700th anniversary a few years ago. 13 winners have been crowned in the event from the Pinweight class (46kg) up to the Heavyweight class (+80kg) and among them several possible future stars could be there in the elite tournaments in a few years.
Tajikistan’s top junior athletes competed in the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia in July with success. Tajikistan Boxing Federation hosted a junior national selection tournament in the end of May and beginning of June and some of those who competed well enough on that event, also reached top performance in Kulob.
Dushanbe’s Mavlon Fayziyev had to meet in the first final of the event with Kulob’s Romish Kurbonzoda who eliminated Khudjand’s Junior National Selection Tournament silver medallist Dilshod Okilov in the semi-final of the championships. The final verdict was unanimous decision to Fayziyev who took the gold medal of the Pinweight class (46kg).
Arkomudin Akmali surprisingly defeated Dushanbe’s Junior National Selection Tournament winner Bobodjon Boboyev in the quarter-final of the Junior National Championships in Kulob which was a big surprise in the Light Flyweight class (48kg). The 15-year-old Akmali defeated also Kulob’s Ziyovudin Bakhridini in the semi-final and Dushanbe’s Khuseyn Kholishov in the gold medal bout.
Fayzmamad Malakhbekov is one of the best Flyweight class (52kg) boxer in Tajikistan among the elite boxers. His younger brother 16-year-old Khudoynazar Malakhbekov competes also in the junior Flyweight class (50kg) who had three difficult contests in the championships against Khudjand’s Sherzod Isoboyev, Khatlon’s Saidmumin Nematullozoda and Dangara’s Faridun Shokhnazarov but finally he was able to win all of those bouts.
Khudjand’s Yusuf Akhmadjoni won the gold medal at the Flyweight class (50kg) in the Junior National Selection Tournament in June and since then he moved up to the Light Bantamweight class (52kg). The talented boxer, who was born in 2001, marched into the final of the Tajikistan Junior National Championships after beating two strong rivals but he was not able to get his second title within a year. His final opponent was Dushanbe’s Mekhrob Khamidov who found the best weapon against the favourite and won the title of the category.
Abdurakhmon Yokubov won the gold medal in the Tajikistan Junior National Selection Tournament a few months ago and repeated his same performance in the Bantamweight class (54kg) in the city of Kulob. Sughd region’s 16-year-old boxer defeated Khorugh’s Sodjiddin Gulmadov in the final of the championships and claimed his second title in Tajikistan.
Abdumalik Boltayev delivered the main sensation of the Tajikistan Junior National Championships when he defeated for the gold of the Featherweight class (57kg) Djamshedjon Gafurov who was in the Top8 in the Children of Asia Games and also in the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. Khorugh’s Bekhruz Nazaromonov competed in the 2015 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg but he claimed only bronze medal in the Tajikistan Junior National Championships following his semi-final loss to Gafurov.
Kulob’s Isroil Dustov won the gold medal in the Tajikistan Junior National Selection Tournament in June and he was the main local favourite for the title in the championships. The 16-year-old Lightweight class (60kg) boxer advanced to the final but he was defeated by Dushanbe’s Mekhrob Olimov. Their gold medal bout was one of the best in the Tajikistan Junior National Championships which was won by Olimov with split decision.
Kulob’s first gold medal was delivered by Farukh Saidov in the Light Welterweight class (63kg) where he had three narrow contests which he all won by split decisions. The 16-year-old talent eliminated Khatlon’s Ramoil Kurbonov, Dushanbe’s Shakhboz Kamolov before triumphing over Kulob’s Fozil Davlatjoni in the final.
Abdulkhamid Khamidov defeated all of his four rivals in the Tajikistan Junior National Selection Tournament a few months ago. The Isfara-based boxer competed once again in the Welterweight class (66kg) and proved he is a top future hope. Khamidov defeated Dushanbe’s Bobodjon Valiyev in the final of the Junior National Championships in Kulob which was their repeat gold medal bout after the June’s event. Khamidov won three out of his previous seven contests before the final bell by TKO.
Dushanbe’s Farudin Egamberdiyev had enough experiences from his schoolboy years to dominate the Light Middleweight class (70kg) in the current Tajikistan Junior National Championships in Kulob. Following his first two TKO successes he was able to beat Isfara’s Junior National Selection Tournament winner 16-year-old Mekhrodj Mavlonov in the final of the category.
Khudjand’s 15-year-old Rakhmonbek Begmatov did not have any chance against Tajikistan’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships competitor Mukhammadali Abdurakhmonov in the Junior National Selection Tournament in June. In Abdurakhmonov’s absence Begmatov used up the chance to win his first national title in Kulob and he could accomplish that target after beating local boxer Sino Boboyev in the final of the Middleweight class (75kg). The last gold medals in the championships went to Isfara’s Saidabdullo Sarmusokov and Dushanbe’s Mukhammad Abroridinov.
