Ukraine’s Oleksandr Malakhov and Sri Lanka’s Maleesha Maduhansa Udukal opened the seventh day of boxing in Al Ain. The taller Ukrainian landed his single jabs to stop the Sri Lankan attacks in the first round and he changed his rhythm in the second to finish their flyweight (50kg) quarter-final.
Mongolia’s Munkh-Erdene Odbayar, their southpaw talent at the junior flyweight (50kg), surprised Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadrizo Ukimov in the first round and after his quick actions, four judges favoured him. The Saudi Arabian referee counted the Uzbek in the first and second rounds as well and he gave a warning to the Mongolian therefore the final verdict was open before the last period. Odbayar had tough hooks in this contest but Ukimov turned back this quarter-final from one of the most difficult situations.
India’s Harsh had a crucial battle against Kazakhstan’s Doszhan Zhumakan and due to his counter-punches he could win that bout by 3:2 split decision at the flyweight (50kg). Turkmenistan’s best junior boxer, Begench Kakamyradov stopped Chinese Taipei’s Shao Fan Ruei with right-handed jabs and his great final seconds guaranteed a clear advantage. Kakamyradov controlled all of the three rounds in this quarter-final and he achieved Turkmenistan’s first medal in Al Ain.
Uzbekistan’s Bekhruz Kurbonov was much quicker in the exchanges using his jabs and right-handed uppercuts than Chinese Taipei’s Su Jia Xian and all of the five judges saw the first round on the same way. The 16-year-old Uzbek landed his shots from close and long ranges and his various combinations showed his superiority in this quarter-final. The Uzbek will now meet Ukraine’s Danylo Humeniuk in the semi-finals of the light bantamweight (52kg) as next in two days.
Tajikistan’s Biloldzhon Iksanov is a great prospect in his homeland but he received heavy shots in the first round from his Ukrainian opponent, Mykhailo Sliusar. The Tajik changed his rhythm and fighting style after the first break and the second round delivered his moments and he equalized the results on the scorecards. Iksanov followed the successful tactics in the third round and he eliminated one of the favourites at the bantamweight (54kg).
Kyrgyzstan’s Abdulkhak Sadikov had the same way of success as Iksanov in the previous bout at the bantamweight (54kg). The Kyrgyz boy had a disadvantage after two minutes of fight but he opened the second aggressively and his motivation was enough to beat Mongolia’s Tsogtsaikhan Taiwanbaatar. Uzbekistan’s Children of Asia Games winner Ibrokhim Shokirjonov outpointed Iran’s Seyed Ali Malakouti while India’s Dhiraj Sheokand also marched to the semi-finals.
Ukraine’s Tymur Karaivan and India’s Shivam both had similar fighting style in the quarter-final of the featherweight (57kg) and the first round was very close between the two youngsters. Shivam was more punctual from the second period and he bowed out a good and experienced Ukrainian junior hopeful. Another Children of Asia Games gold medallist Uzbek, Jakhongir Zaynidinov was in different level as his opponent from the Philippines, Wyndel Caytuna and he joined the last four.
Kyrgyzstan’s Kutmanbiy Muratov had some issues in the first round against Chinese Taipei’s Lai Kuan Min but he stepped into the gas in time to declare as the winner of their featherweight (57kg) quarter-final. Tajikistan’s Abubakr Azizov started the first round better than Jordan’s tall Yazeed Jaradat but he needed to keep the full focus until the last gong to win this difficult contest which was the last quarter-final in this weight class.
Tajikistan’s Akhmadshokh Khoshimov was patient and he tried to maintain the best fighting distance in the first round against Uzbekistan’s quick Saidkhuja Sadillakhujayev. The Tajik made some mistakes in their opener and the Uzbek was able to counter him from his safest range taking the lead on the scorecards. The Uzbek southpaw wanted to fight more in the second and third rounds but he was also better in that game play.
