Bakhodir Jalolov and Gu Hong are finalists in the Tokyo Olympic Games

The eleventh competition day at the Tokyo Olympic Games saw only one session with seven bouts and all of them were decisive for the finals. China’s Gu Hong and Uzbekistan’s AIBA World Champion Bakhodir Jalolov marched to the title contests won their contests with excellent performance today.

Boxers at the women’s flyweight (51kg), women’s welterweight (69kg), men’s light heavyweight (81kg) and men’s super heavyweight (+91kg) were in action in the eleventh day of boxing in Tokyo.

Altogether 70 Asian boxers including 26 women and 44 men are able to represent their nations in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. The final number of the boxers is 289 in the Games where thirteen champions will be crowned in Tokyo.

Huang Hsiao Wen is Chinese Taipei’s first ever bronze medallist

Huang Hsiao Wen claimed gold medal at the bantamweight (54kg) in the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships but moved down to the flyweight (51kg) to compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games. The 24-year-old talent advanced to the semi-finals and she faced with Turkey’s European Games winner Busenaz Cakiroglu on Day11. Huang moved ahead more in this semi-final than in her previous contest but Cakiroglu was better in that strategy and took the lead on the scorecards. Huang produced her very best in the second round but it was not enough to beat the Seed No.1 therefore she claimed her nation’s first ever Olympic bronze medal in boxing.

Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki is bronze medallist in Tokyo

Japan’s Ryomei Tanaka exceeded the expectations in the tenth day of boxing in the Tokyo Olympic Games when Sena Irie claimed the gold medal at the women’s featherweight (57kg). Their next 22-year-old talent, Tsukimi Namiki met with Bulgaria’s veteran Stoyka Krasteva in the semi-finals of the women’s flyweight (51kg). Namiki danced through the Bulgarian in the first two minutes and she had full of energy in the opening exchanges. The Japanese talent used her best strategy, tried to keep the distance from the first seconds and landed counter-punches. Krasteva finished the first round with better punches and she used her longer reach well enough to beat Namiki which means the Japanese earned a bronze medal.

India’s Lovlina Borgohain achieved bronze medal in Tokyo

India’s two-time AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain eliminated Chinese Taipei’s star Chen Nien Chin in the quarter-finals and she had a brave attempt to beat Turkey’s Seed No.1 Busenaz Surmeneli today. The Indian welterweight (69kg) boxer used her longer reach and speed well in their semi-final but her Turkish opponent found the rhythm in the end of the first round. Borgohain has been counted by the referee which was a turning point in their bout and following that, Surmeneli worked hard and effectively to beat the Indian boxer.

China’s Gu Hong eliminated her US rival and joined to the final

China’s Gu Hong claimed several Asian titles during her career and advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s welterweight (69kg) where she met with United States’ Oshae Jones who had hard road to the last four. The Chinese boxer was taller and used her distance effectively in the first round when she stopped the US attacks with right-handed jabs. The 33-year-old Gu had the experiences to control the second round from longer distance even better than the first. The US boxer was never stopped attacking in their contest but stepped into the best fighting range of the Chinese veteran. Gu controlled the third round which means she advanced to the final of the category where she will be meeting with Turkey’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli.

Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov stopped Frazer Clarke in a fantastic battle

Uzbekistan’s superstar Bakhodir Jalolov is the reigning AIBA World Champion and ASBC Asian Champion at the super heavyweight (+91kg) who did not lose any contests since August 2017 therefore he was the favourite against Great Britain’s veteran Frazer Clarke. The 202cm tall Uzbek began the first round with impressive left-handed jabs which reached Clarke and hurt the British boxer. The Uzbek southpaw has got strong athletic skills to avoid the punches of his European opponent. Jalolov found the tiny holes on Clarke’s defense in the beginning of the second round, he landed clear shots but the Uzbek was caught by the British boxer one time with a heavy shot in that period. Jalolov landed more punches in the third and due to the cut of the British boxer, the Uzbek advanced to the final.

Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev is bronze medallist in Tokyo

Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev won silver medals in the recent editions of the AIBA World Boxing Championships and ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The 30-year-old Central Asian met with a younger US boy, Richard Torrez Jr. in the semi-final of the super heavyweight (+91kg). Kunkabayev had the better footwork and easily avoided the US attacks in the first two minutes. The Kazakh boxer was relaxed and he was technically better but Torrez caught him with a strong left-handed hook. The US boxer knocked down the attacking Kazakh in the end of the second round and Kunkabayev received also a warning. Torrez decided the contest with a tough hook in the third round therefore Kunkabayev claimed only bronze medal this time.
