Australia’s Commonwealth Youth Games winner Jack Bowen was bowed out by Jill Mandage in the Kapolri Cup on Day3

The second edition of the Kapolri Cup continued in the city of Manado where 14 champions will be crowned after the day of the finals. The biggest sensation of Day3 was delivered by Indonesia’s Jill Mandage who bowed out Australia’s Commonwealth Youth Games winner Jack Bowen in the men’s bantamweight (56kg).
The Indonesians are preparing hard to the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in their capital city in Jakarta therefore their best hopes are near to their peak performance. The boxing tournament of the Asian Games will be starting on August 22 and the Indonesians are hoping to get at least one medal in our sport.
Altogether 70 women and 88 men boxers were there in the general weigh-in and after the drawing ceremony the first session has done in Manado. The women boxers can attend in six different weight classes from the light flyweight (48kg) up to the light welterweight (64kg). The men participants are fighting in eight categories from the pinweight (46kg) up to the middleweight (75kg).
Australia, Chinese Taipei, host Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are attending in the second edition of the Kapolri Cup in Manado with women and men boxers as well.
Philippines sent strong women boxing team to the Kapolri Cup and among their team members Irish Magno eliminated Singapore’s Leona Hui Xin Yee at the women’s flyweight (51kg). In the same category her teammate ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Aira Villegas was too smart for Indonesia’s 19-year-old talented Ainun Azizah.
Thailand’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Chuthamat Raksat celebrated her 25th birthday in the competition day and she was in amazing shape in Manado City. The best Thai woman boxer dominated the first round against Indonesia’s Reka Kasibulan which determined their whole contest. Raksat defeated her rival by large margin of differences and advanced to the quarter-finals.
Vietnam’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion at the flyweight (51kg) Nguyen Thi Tam, Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Anusha Dilrukshi Kodituwakku, and Japan’s Asian Games bronze medallist Aya Shinmoto all dominated their opening contests in Manado City against their younger rivals. These experienced women boxers stopped their opponents in the first round which meant they are all quarter-finalists in the 2nd Kapolri Cup.
Singapore’s Samantha Quek Shing Wei was silver medallist in their Women’s National Championships but she impressed with her tough combinations and defeated Indonesia’s Ildawati at the lightweight (60kg). In this Olympic category Thailand’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sudaporn Seesondee and Vietnam’s Asian Games bronze medallist Luu Thi Duyen also defeated their rivals in the third competition day.
The biggest sensation of the third competition day of the Kapolri Cup was delivered by Indonesia’s Jill Mandage who is relatively unknown in the international stages. The bantamweight (56kg) boxer shocked Australia’s Commonwealth Youth Games winner Jack Bowen and bowed out his rival winning the bout by unanimous decision.
Indonesia’s most experienced man boxer Julio Bria returned also to the world of the ring and the 30-year-old veteran proved his strength on Day3. The Bali-based bantamweight (56kg) boxer, who claimed gold medal at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games, delivered a classical KO success against Muslimin Sugito in Manado City.
At the men’s light welterweight (64kg) Australia’s Commonwealth Games winner Harry Garside, Vietnam’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Nguyen Van De, Singapore’s Southeast Asian Games runner-up Leong Jun Hao and Philippines’ 19-year-old Ronald Chavez Jr. all won their contests on Day3.
