Asians compete in IBA Golden Belt Series Tournament in Marrakech

Strong boxers from five Asian nations are seeing action in the IBA Golden Belt Series Tournament scheduled to run until February 12 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Yemen are the boxers from the Asian continent which sent teams to Marrakesh. Among the top nations from other Confederations, Russia, Italy, Spain, Australia, Azerbaijan, France, Morocco, Ecuador, Brazil, Cuba, Mozambique, DR Congo, Serbia and Romania are there in Marrakesh with strong boxers.

The women’s featherweight (57kg) is one of the best categories in the entire IBA Golden Belt Series Tournament in Marrakesh. Kazakhstan’s defending ASBC Asian Champion Karina Ibragimova, Chinese Taipei’s reigning World Champion Lin Yu Ting and Italy’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Irma Testa are all on the board in the event.

Former world champions Nazym Kyzaibay, Valentina Khalzova and Lazzat Kungeibayeva as well as reigning ASBC Asian titlist Karina Ibragimova banner Kazakhstan.

Defending world Champion Lin Yu Ting, 2018 world winner Chen Nien Chin and emerging pug Wu Shih Yi spearhead Chinese Taipei.

Jordan is leaning on its elite men standouts Zeyad Eshaish, Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh, Hussein Iashaish and Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi to bring home medals.

Indonesia and Yemen also sent some of their finest fighters to the third event of IBA’s World Boxing Tour which attracted top countries from other confederations such as Cuba, Russia, Italy, Spain and Australia.

With the launch of IBA’s new ranking system last year, the Asian boxers have a chance to rack up points in Marrakech.

Golden Belt tournaments award 900 points to gold medalists, 700 to silver and 500 to bronze while fifth placers take 400, seventh placers 300, Round of 16 finishers 150 and Round of 32 participants 50.

The IBA Golden Belt Series Tournament in Marrakech features all 13 official weight categories for men and 12 for women.
