Asian youth bets sustain momentum on Day 4 of world meet

Reigning ASBC youth champion Ravina of India and fellow Asian standouts continued their winning ways on the fourth day of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships 2022 at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano in La Nucia, Spain.

Ravina was too strong for Hungary’s Franciska Varga as the 17-year-old Indian came through with a second-round stoppage in their women’s light welterweight (63kg) bout.

Her teammate Kunjarani Devi Thongam, a winner in the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament, tallied a 5-0 romp over Spain’s Maria Horche in lightweight (60kg).

Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kabdolda also prevailed in her lightweight match against Cape Verde’s lone boxer Carina Varela, 5-0, while Uzbekistan’s Sitora Bakhodirova beat Ireland’s Rebecca Collins, 4-1, in light welterweight.

Over at the men’s category, Uzbekistan’s ASBC junior titlist Fazliddin Erkinboyev knocked down Croatia’s Dario Tomic in the opening round before claiming an RSC victory in the light middleweight (71kg) class.

Chakharin Aekpatcha (light) and Thananchai Phoemsap (light middle) highlighted Thailand’s perfect campaign on Day 4 as they posted 5-0 routs against their Romanian and Dominican foes, respectively. South Korea’s Kim Soo Chan stopped Japan’s Kazusa Kawabuchi in the second round even as Kazakhstan’s Yegor Yegorov achieved the same result versus Jimi Rasmus Noioso of Finland in light middleweight.
