Asian Games – Hero of Day4 – Thailand’s Chatchai Butdee

The Asian Boxing Confederation’s project the Hero of the Day will be published after each competition day during the boxing tournament of the Asian Games. Following Turkmenistan’s rising star Hursand Imankuliyev, South Korea’s two-time ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Oh Yeon Ji and Mongolia’s flyweight (52kg) boxer Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag, Thailand’s ASBC Asian Champion Chatchai Butdee became the Hero of Day4.
Thailand’s Chatchai Butdee was born in Prachin Buri on March 26 in 1985. He started his career as Muay Thai and switched to boxing 13 years ago. Thailand’s pride claimed bronze medal in the Almaty 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships, won the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and he also qualified for the last two editions of the Olympic Games.
Chatchai Butdee was injured in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in July but recovered in time and his experiences were enough to cause the biggest surprise of the fourth competition day of the Asian Games. Butdee had to meet in the last 16 of the bantamweight (56kg) with Kazakhstan’s defending AIBA World Champion Kayrat Yeraliyev. The 33-year-old Thai veteran found the best tactic against his Kazakh star rival and won the bout by unanimous decision.
