ASBC Youth Champion Orosbekov keeps Kyrgyz national title

Reigning ASBC Asian youth champion Almaz Orosbekov sustained his dominance on home soil, retaining his title in the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships held recently at the Kozhomkul Sports Hall in Bishkek.

Orosbekov, who won the lightweight (60kg) gold in Amman, Jordan last year, moved up to the light welterweight (63.5kg) class in the national event and dominated all his opponents including Nurbek Ayazbek Uulu of Osh in the final.

Several national team standouts also shone in the tournament that served as the first selection for the next edition of the Asian Youth & Junior Championships.

Asian junior bronze winner Medina Abyldayeva beat Alina Moldokulova to emerge atop the women’s featherweight (57kg) category.

Chui region’s Gulmira Guseynova had a very difficult final against Alina Asanova but she won that tough contest by split decision. Anelya Toktogonova (54kg), Elmira Adylbekova (60kg), and Ayzhamal Adylbekova all won their final contests by RSC in Bishkek.

ASBC medalists Temirkhan Daniyarov (men’s fly-51kg), Atay Asanbekov (middle-75kg) and Mukhammed Dursunov (light heavy-80kg) lorded over their respective divisions.

Former national junior squad member, the Dzhalal-Abad region’s Zafar Kamilov impressed in his youth debut as he stunned Asian youth silver finisher Bekzat Ergeshov for the minimumweight (48kg) gold.

Askat Chomonov was Youth National Champion in 2022 and he moved up to the lightweight (60kg) in the previous weeks but he had the speed and strength to beat his main rivals such as Bektur Turdubayev and Oomatbek Belekbayev.

A total of 173 men and 19 women boxers battled it out in this years’ Kyrgyz Youth National Championships.
