ASBC welcomes the Bangladesh’s return to the next championship

Bangladesh will return to the boxing map at the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships which will open with its first competition day in Al Ain on August 29. The South Asian country will compete with four boxers in the upcoming competition, for the very first time in this age group.
The upcoming ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships will be held in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates between August 27 and September 10 which is the first top event after the Paris Olympics. Two age groups, two genders and Asia’s best 13, 14, 15 and 16-year-old talents will be competing for the 56 available gold medals in Al Ain.
Bangladesh competed at the very first time in the Asian Boxing Championships in 1977 which edition was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Bangladesh Boxing Federation sent eight boxers to the Indonesian capital and among them Abdul Halim and Abdur Rauf Khan were able to get bronze medals in 1977.
Their highlight was the 2010 edition of the South Asian Games where the country was able to get two gold medals and a further silver in Dhaka. Bangladesh will return to the ASBC events after a longer break and their staff selected four male junior talents to Al Ain.
Mr. Mohammed Asrafur Rahman is the team manager of their delegation while Mr. Liton Mahmud and Mr. Kazi Shahadet Hossain Kazi are the coaches of the junior national squad. The Secretary General of Bangladesh Boxing Federation, Mr. Mohamed Mazharul Islam also supports the team’s preparations.
Mohammed Abir Mahamud moved down to the light flyweight (48kg) in the recent months following his loss against Bhutan’s Kinley Phuntsho in an international encounter. Mohammed Ali Hassan Sumon (52kg) competed in a dual match against Bhutan earlier this year and the 16-year-old boxer defeated his rival in that event.
Mohammed Munna was also member of Team Bangladesh in the dual match against Bhutan and he moved back to the featherweight (57kg) after the intense training sessions. Their fourth junior boxer in the national team will be Mohammed Arafat Sheikh Mishu at the flyweight (50kg).
More than 25 countries have registered to the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships and the number of the boxers exceeded 450.
