ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba congratulates to ASBC EC member Mr. Dian Gomes who has been re-elected as President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka

The Annual General Meeting and the election of the officials of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka was held in their capital city in Colombo. ASBC EC member and the current President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes has re-elected in the Annual General Meeting uncontested and he can continue his projects to lead the country’s boxing life in the next four years.

“Getting the right people for the right job is the key to success, be it in business or sports administration it is the right team that produces the best results,” summarized his point of view Mr. Dian Gomes who is member of the Executive Committee of the Asian Boxing Confederation.

Sri Lanka’s boxing reached two excellent highlights in the recent two years, their boxers claimed record number of three bronze medals at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Their second amazing result was a gold medal at the Kathmandu 2019 South Asian Games which was their first after a long break.

The main goals of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka focuses are the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Asian Games and to the Lahore 2022 South Asian Games. The President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes formed a new team and he believes his country will be able to get a gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Sri Lanka’s icon Mr. Dian Gomes is member of the Asian Boxing Confederation’s Executive Committee and the ASBC Women’s Commission present day. Mr. Gomes was elected as President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka in 2004 first before he returned to the position in 2017. He will be supported by two new Vice-Presidents as former National Champion Mr. Saman Gunaratne and national coach Mr. Wasantha Kumara.

International Technical Officer (ITO) Lt. Col. Mr. Hemantha Weerasinghe supported the success of several ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in the recent years. He is one of the most experienced Sri Lankan officials who will be returning to his previous position in Sri Lanka as Secretary General. He was held that position between 2008 and 2010 and after 10 years of break Mr. Weerasinghe will take over the top administration position.

Another former Sri Lankan boxer and official Mr. Aubrey Peiris will be the Treasurer of the Association. Mr. Deepal Herath elected as Assistant Treasurer while national coach Mr. Abdulla Ibunu can support Mr. Weerasinghe’s work as Assistant Secretary.
