ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba congratulates to ASBC EC member Mr. Dian Gomes who has been appointed as AIBA Executive Committee member

The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore and the whole ASBC management congratulate to the new President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, ASBC EC member Mr. Dian Gomes who has been appointed as AIBA Executive Committee member.

Following Mr. Dian Gomes has been re-elected as President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka uncontested during their Annual General Meeting last month, he received a letter that he was appointed as AIBA Executive Committee member. Mr. Dian Gomes dedicated his whole life to boxing and will be leading Sri Lanka’s boxing life in the upcoming four years and he can support also actively Asia’s and the World’s sport families.

Sri Lanka had his last Olympian boxer Anuraddha Bandara Rathnayake at the flyweight (51kg) in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with Mr. Dian Gomes’ support and the country is aiming its next spot for the Paris 2024 edition. Until that hard road their next missions are the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and to the Lahore 2022 South Asian Games where the Sri Lankans are planning to take medals.

Sri Lanka’s boxing reached two excellent highlights in the recent two years in 2018 and in 2019. Their boxers including woman veteran Anusha Dilrukshi Kodituwakku and two boys Thiwanka Sandaruwan Ranasinghe and Seneviratne Bandara have claimed record number of three bronze medals at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Their second amazing result was a gold medal besides to many others at the Kathmandu 2019 South Asian Games which was their first after a long break. The title was taken by Wanni Arachchige Rumesh Sandakelum at the light heavyweight (81kg) following his KO and points successes over tough rivals.
