ASBC Heroes – Japan’s Daiya Kira who became the Best Boxer in Fujairah and remained unbeaten in the international events

Japan’s amazing talent Daiya Kira won the flyweight (50kg) at the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in the United Arab Emirates with amazing performance. He arrived to Fujairah as one of the main favorites and proved his talent therefore he was our ASBC Hero in 2019.

Daiya Kira was born in Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture on May 30 in 2003 and began boxing at the age of 11 in 2014. He trains with coach Mr. Hiroaki Takami at the Oji Kougyo High School Boxing Club together with his elder sister. He likes the sweets, watching ball games but boxing is his main hobby and he wants to follow Naoya Inoue’s pathway.

Daiya Kira won three junior national tournaments in 2018 and joined to the Japanese team in 2019. Several Asian teams used the prestigious 69th edition of the Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament as preparation for the ASBC Championships which took place in Eger, Hungary on June 2019. Japan’s Daiya Kira won several national events and meetings but he impressed in an international event at the very first time. Japan’s new junior sensation controlled all of the rounds against Denmark’s experienced Masti Waysi in the final of the flyweight (50kg) and secured his first career highlight with that important gold medal.

The Japanese Interscholastic Athletic Meeting is a traditional national event for the high school boxers where the country’s best youth hopes fight for the medals but some of the promising younger junior talents also attend to raise their experiences. The light flyweight (49kg) was won by the strong favourite Tokyo’s Kyosuke Takami who defeated two-years younger Daiya Kira in a hectic final. Kira claimed silver medal among the older boxers and proved his amazing technique once again.

Following those experiences, Daiya Kira arrived to the venue of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships to Fujairah. Japan’s junior No.1 advanced to the final of the flyweight (50kg) in Fujairah after beating Mongolia’s Dorjnyambuu Ganbold and Uzbekistan’s Anvar Baltabayev as expected.

Japan’s new sensation tried to use his speed to control the final bout from the first seconds against Kazakhstan’s Abdulla Patiyev who is also a technician boxer in the junior level. The Japanese boxer ruled the middle of the ring and pressurized his taller Kazakh opponent who used his longer reach in their final. The top favourite Kira impressed once again in their final and became ASBC Asian Junior Champion in Fujairah. Following all finals in the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships, Daiya Kira was named as the Best Boxer of the Fujairah event.
