ASBC Heroes – India’s Jhoon Bharat who defeated three strong Central Asian boxers in Kuwait City

India’s Jhoon Bharat claimed the gold medal of the 70 weight class at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships where he defeated three tough Central Asian opponents. Jhoon Bharat was one of the ASBC Heroes with his gold medal and strong developments in Kuwait City in 2019.

Jhoon Bharat was born in the city of Bahadurgarh on July 21 in 2005 and began boxing at the age of 12 with coach Hitesh Deswal in Jhajjar. The 185cm tall Indian boxer has a technician boxing idol, Prince Naseem Hamed who amazed the professional world in the 1990s. He prefers the vegetarian food and likes the Hindi songs while his lone hobby is boxing.

The 2019 edition of the Indian Schoolboys National Boxing Championships was held in the city of Rohtak a few weeks before the start of the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships. The national competition was a selection tournament for the historical first continental event in this age group. He stopped two opponents before met with his main national rivals as Raman and Abhiwardhan Sharma in the final stages of the Indian Schoolboys National Championships.

Following his national title in Rohtak, he began his campaign in Kuwait City against Tajikistan’s Akmaljon Abduvaliyev which was a strong international test for him but he succeeded against the Central Asian boxer. India’s Jhoon Bharat delivered a small surprise in the semi-finals of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships when he was able to eliminate Uzbekistan’s Aynazar Kenesbayev winning the contest by split decision. The Indian boxer was taller than his final opponent Kyrgyzstan’s Atay Asanbekov who eliminated Kazakhstan’s Nurasyl Bauyrzhan and Iran’s last hope Alireza Shabgarnia during his road to the finals. The Indian tried to keep the best fighting distance against the small Kyrgyz and used his longer hands to follow his tactic. Asanbekov gave in everything in their contest, ruled the middle of the ring but the Indian counter-attacks decided their final. Jhoon Bharat claimed India’s second gold medal in Kuwait City after Yashwardhan Singh’s success at the 58kg weight class.
