ASBC Future Stars – Tajikistan’s two-time National Champion Sumaiya Kosimova who was near to get an Olympic quota in Amman before her 20th birthday
Tajikistan’s 20-year-old Sumaiya Kosimova is one of their biggest female talents who was near to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in Amman. The Asian Boxing Confederation’s new PR campaign, the ASBC Future stars have been introducing the continent’s best hopes and young talents focusing to the new wave of the boxers.
Sumaiya Kosimova was born in Dushanbe on the 26th of June in 2000 and turned to 20 this year. She began her boxing career eight years ago and reached strong results with the support of her coaches Mr. Parviz Akhmedov and Mr. Mirzo Shamsiyev. Kosimova’s best years are still coming soon and it is expected that she could be a medallist in the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Kosimova won national competitions before she joined to the national team of Tajikistan in 2015. She defeated Poland’s favourite Roza Asanowicz at the 2015 AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships where she advanced to the Top8 as one of the youngest competitors of the pinweight (46kg). As a junior she claimed bronze medal at the 2016 Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia.
Kosimova won the Tajikistan Youth National Championships in 2017 and in that year she attended at the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati and at the Ahmet Cömert Youth Tournament in Turkey. The young Tajik boxer claimed bronze medal at the Usman Khalimov Memorial Tournament in 2018 and won important bouts at the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in Kazakhstan.
Kosimova won the Tajikistan Women’s Elite National Championships in March 2019 before her 19th birthday beating all of her top rivals in Dushanbe. Kosimova attended in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships which experiences were important for her to increase her international experiences.
The young Tajik girl was involved to the national team which attended at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan on March 2020. She defeated Jordan’s best female boxer Reem Al-Mriheel and she lost to only eventual winner Chang Yuan of China in the quarter-finals. For the Olympic quota, she was defeated by Philippines’ nine-years-older Irish Magno but proved her developments in Amman.
Sumaiya Kosimova competed also at the 2020 edition of the Tajikistan Women’s National Championships after the Olympic Qualifier and defended her throne achieving her second elite national title before her 20th birthday. Kosimova defeated her main national rival Rukhafzo Khaknazarova in the final of the flyweight (51kg).
