ASBC Future Stars – Nepal’s 8-year-old Deepshikhar Maharjan who trains with his Asian Games bronze medallist father in Chandragiri

Nepal’s Deepshikhar Maharjan is only 8-year-old but he adopted the technique, footwork and movements of boxing very quickly and could our ASBC Future Stars. The Asian Boxing Confederation’s new PR campaign, the ASBC Future stars have been introducing the continent’s best hopes and young talents focusing to the new wave of the boxers.

Deepshikhar Maharjan was born in Nepal in 2012 and the 8-year-old talent began his boxing career only half year ago during the quarantine period of the pandemic. Nepal’s new young talent trains in the city of Chandragiri which was the host of the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Tournament in 2019. Deepshikhar Maharjan trains six-times in a week to reach his future career objectives in our sport.

Deepshikhar Maharjan is member of a group of small kids who are between 8 and 14 years old and trains in Chandragiri with coach Mr. Deepak Maharjan who is a well-known figure of the international boxing world. Among the kids gender equality is an important factor and many girls joined to their training programs. Deepshikhar Maharjan’s father is Deepak therefore his future success is guaranteed in the family boxing business in Chandragiri.

Deepak Maharjan won the Nepal National Championships several times, he attended high number of international events in the 2000s but his career highlight came in 2010 at the Asian Games which was held in Guangzhou. Deepak Maharjan claimed bronze at the light heavyweight (81kg) in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games following his quarter-final success over an experienced Thai boxer. His bronze is Nepal’s last boxing medal in the Asian continental level which marked him as one of the heroes of the country.

Following his active boxing career, Deepak Maharjan joined to the coaching staff of the Nepali national team and attended in the ringside in several ASBC Asian Boxing Championships, South Asian Games and other events. He supports his son’s boxing career, and his quick technical adaptation in the gym which he owns in Chandragiri. Mr. Deepak Maharjan, who trains with many national team members, is planning to arrange and host the 2nd edition of the Indramaya Maharjan International Memorial Tournament in Chandragiri after the Covid-19 pandemic.
