ASBC Champions shine in Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Tournament

ASBC Asian champions Ulzhan Sarsenbek, Bakhtiyar Anarbayev, Torekhan Sabyrkhan and Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev ruled their respective weight classes in the 21st Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament that concluded recently in Turkestan, Kazakhstan.

Reigning Asian woman featherweight (57kg) titlist Sarsenbek flaunted her aggressive style to win all her bouts quickly, including the final where she stopped Dilnaz Sekisheva in the opening round.

Anarbayev, an Asian junior champ in 2021, thrashed Madiyar Otar in the final and two other opponents via RSC to grab the men’s lightweight (60kg) title.

Two-time Asian junior winner Sabyrkhan proved he is a cut above the rest in the welterweight (63.5kg) category, subduing Ilya Kalinin, 3-0, for the gold medal.

Begaliyev, also a former continental junior champion, overcame a tough foe in Alinur Omirbekov through a 2-1 split decision in the light middleweight (71kg) division.

Tomiris Myrzakul defeated another international boxer, Anita Adisheva in the final of the bantamweight (54kg) while their reigning ASBC Asian Youth Champion teammate, Viktoriya Baidukova earned only bronze medal in Turkestan.

Tajikistan’s new sensation, Mekhrodj Sufijonov was the gold medal contender at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) but Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek stopped him in the final. Shakzhod Palvonov became the lone Uzbek winner in the competition, he defeated Yeraly Shopanov at the heavyweight (92kg).

Three more women and eight more men were crowned champions in the tournament that served as a preparation for the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships 2023 in August.

The city of Turkestan is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and located in the South part of the country near to the boarder of Uzbekistan. Boxers who were born in 2005 or in 2006 were eligible to compete in the prestigious Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament.

Several regions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan joined the event named after Bekzat Sattarkhanov, who won a gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics before his untimely death due to a car crash on New Year’s Eve of the same year.
