All of the eight Tokyo Olympians involved to the Kazakh men’s team which attends at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships

The head coach of the Kazakh men’s elite national team Mr. Galymbek Kenzhebayev selected a 10-strong team which will be attending at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai. The powerful team contains all of their eight Tokyo Olympians with two super talented youngsters as new additions.

The ASBC Asian Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships will be starting from the 21st of May and it is extended until the 1st of June in the new venue in Dubai. The Kazakh boxers earned maximum number of eight quota places for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

The Kazakh boxers claimed two gold medals in the last edition of the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships when Tursynbai Kulakhmet (75kg) and Bek Nurmaganbet (81kg) were their winners. Bekzad Nurdauletov achieved gold medal at the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships where Kazakhstan produced a fantastic performance once again.

Daniyal Sabit surprisingly won the national title at the light flyweight (49kg) half year ago and the teenager received the right to attend in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist and Tokyo Olympian Saken Bibossynov will represent Kazakhstan at the flyweight (52kg).

Two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan is a fantastic talent who defeated many of the elite stars in the recent one year including Spain’s Gabriel Escobar but he will be attending in a new category at the bantamweight (56kg) in Dubai. Tokyo Olympian Serik Temirzhanov also moved up and he will be attending at the lightweight (60kg) in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

Veteran Zakir Safiullin will be turning to 35 soon but after two silver medals he is planning to get the title of the light welterweight (64kg) in Dubai. Two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist 24-year-old Ablaikhan Zhussupov is a favourite at the men’s welterweight (69kg) which is Kazakhstan’s famous division.

AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Abilkhan Amankul returned to the national team in time after his injury to secure the Olympic spot for Tokyo. The reigning AIBA World Champion of the light heavyweight (81kg) Bekzad Nurdauletov is also member of the travelling team.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist veteran Vasiliy Levit prepares to his fourth Asian title at the heavyweight (91kg) but he had two losses in the preparation tournaments. Two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Kamshybek Kunkabayev can expect hard battle with his old rival, Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov at the super heavyweight (+91kg).
