Al-Jassas and Humaidi were the bests in the new Saudi Arabian National Championships

Saudi Arabia’s boxing life turned into a new era in the recent one year when their management launched their new strategic plans. The country hosted the Gulf Countries Tournament in 2016 and following that their new cycle started with their first national event in Riyadh where their best elite male boxers could attend.
Their new Preliminary Entry National Championships is the open of their new cycle and follows several training camps and other national events. The capital city of the country Riyadh hosted their new national event which was their second in the current year. Altogether 58 elite male boxers competed in the Saudi Arabian Preliminary Entry National Championships in Riyadh after the regional selections.
Oqaz’s defending National Champion Fares Khudir Sharif defeated Gulf Countries Tournament silver medallist Bandar Ahmed Kaabi in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) and his next title means he is near to compete in the international level as well. The next title in the national event was bagged by Saied Al-Mohamad who was too quick for Damak’s Omar Hassan Mashnawi at the flyweight (52kg).
Saudi Arabia’s top talent Sajad Ali Ahmad Al-Jassas trains in Al Taraji and delivered top performance in the National Championships in Riyadh where he was too strong for Mouaaz Al-Soufyani in the semi-final and Ahmad Sami Abou Bshet in the final of the bantamweight (56kg). The 19-year-old boxer won the Gulf Countries Tournament this year and moved up from the flyweight (52kg) in the recent months.
Oqaz’s Gulf Countries Tournament winner Samer Humaidi is one of the best Saudi Arabian boxer who moved up to the lightweight (60kg) in the recent months and dominated the national event. His final opponent was Riyadh’s Abdelaziz Al-Khazeim but he was not able to stop Humaidi in the gold medal bout. The 26-year-old boxer, who competed in the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Amman, is on the best way to show his developed skills in 2017.
Damak’s Gulf Countries Tournament bronze medallist Khaled Ahmed Abdala Khabrani won the fifth title in the national event following his success over Riyadh’s Saleh Mohammad Al-Zouman at the light welterweight (64kg). Damak’s next gold medal was achieved by Gulf Countries Tournament silver medallist Hassan Ali Aziz Khal who defeated Makka’s Hassan Abdul Hassan in the final of the welterweight (69kg) and continued his dominancy in the national events.
Sodos’ Salem Ahmed Al-Faqihi is an experienced boxer who is member of the national team since 2013 and attended in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games. Since then he moved up to the middleweight (75kg) and dominated his final bout against Abdullah Ahmad Hamzi in Riyadh and will be there in the national team again in 2017.
Oqaz’s Salem Houssam Aldin controlled his final at the light heavyweight (81kg) over Al Taraji’s Salman Merza Ahmad. Lal Sahi’s Gulf Countries Tournament winner Baker Salem Al-Khaldi Subyani defeated Riyadh’s Ayman Ali Kabd in the final of the heavyweight (91kg) which was an expected result in the event.
Oqaz’s Gulf Countries Tournament winner veteran Turki Salem Subyani moved up to the super heavyweight (+91kg) this year and it was a great success for the boxer. The 29-year-old boxer, who is member of the national team since 2009, stopped Damak’s Mohamed Haqawi in the tenth final of the Championships.
