Akhmedov produced strong performance in the semi-finals of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup

The second part of the exciting semi-finals was held in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan where the women boxers proved amazing performance. The winners of today’s contests advanced to the finals of the President’s Cup and kept their chance alive to win the titles.
Kazakhstan’s two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay decided to box at the Olympic flyweight (51kg) once again and following her national title she is in top form at the President’s Cup in Astana. Following her first victory she was too energetic to her younger teammate Sevara Tadzhikulova who abandoned their contest in the third round. He semi-final rival was Ukraine’s Rio 2016 Olympian Tetiana Kob who could not stop the younger Kazakh boxer’s attacks in Astana. Kyzaibay’s final opponent will be her teammate, another Rio 2016 Olympian, Zhaina Shekerbekova.
Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko received the right to box in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana but she was not able to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The lightweight (60kg) boxer returned in top shape, won the Kazakh National Championships, started well enough against Uzbekistan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Yodgoroy Mirzaeva and India’s Siwi Boora while she was able to beat Philippines’ AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nesthy Petecio in a narrow semi-final. She will now meet for the title with Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova.
Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist and defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova was excellent in her debuting contest against Uzbekistan’s Nafisakhon Askarova and defeated her teammate Akerke Bakhytzhan in her quarter-final. Shakimova was not enough satisfied yet and controlled her semi-final against India’s Lavlina Borgohain who joined to the national team last year. Shakimova’s final opponent will be Russia’s young Darima Sandakova in the women’s middleweight (75kg).
Philippines’ defending Southeast Asian Games winner Mario Fernandez produced superb performance in the first preliminary round at the bantamweight (56kg) in Astana. The Filipino boxer continued his amazing winning path against South Korea’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist tall Han Young Hun in the quarter-final when he knocked out his rival. Fernandez was still enough strong also in the semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Zhanbolat Kydyrbayev and won that key bout by 3:2. He will now meet for the title of the President’s Cup against Kazakhstan’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Ilyas Suleimenov who eliminated Zhanbolat Tilegenuly in Astana.
Kazakhstan’s defending AIBA Youth World Champion Sadreddin Akhmedov won the gold medal at the Thailand International Invitational Tournament two months ago and opened his participation with a superb success against Philippines’ promising hope, Joel Bacho. The 19-year-old Kazakh welterweight (69kg) boxer did not give any chance to Bekzod Khalmetov in the semi-finals therefore he can prepare now to a dream final against Uzbekistan’s Islamic Solidarity Games winner Bobo-Usmon Boturov.
South Korea’s Military World Champion Yang Hee Guen eliminated the main favourite of the light heavyweight (81kg) in Astana, namely Kazakhstan’s Yerik Alzhanov and he defeated another host nation’s pride in the semi-finals. Yang, who will be turning to 27 this year, had great stamina in the final round to eliminate Nurdaulet Zharmanov in the last four. The South Korean boxer will now meet with Kazakhstan’s 19-year-old Bek Nurmagambet in the final who triumphed over Kyrgyzstan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu.
