AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event – Day8 Finals Report

Amazing last day was held in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qianan

The last competition day was held in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an, China where seven weight classes were in action. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and host China were the most successful nations in the competition where eleven nations secured quota places and among them 10 are Asian.

Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg):
China’s three-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Ren Cancan defeated her main rival India’s Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte in the semi-final of the competition and continued her winning path in Qian’an. The 28-year-old Chinese boxer triumphed over Uzbekistan’s teenager Yodgoroy Mirzaeva in the gold medal bout who delivered a big sensation with her quota in the event. Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting triumphed over India’s five-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte in the box-off for the third place.

Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg):
China’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Yin Junhua defeated Vietnam’s taller Luu Thi Duyen in the semi-final of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event and walked over to the gold against Australia’s lone finalist Shelley Watts who could not attend in the final. The Chinese boxer proved her best in the competition and has got medal chances in the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games while the Box-off for the 3rd place was won by Vietnam’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Luu Thi Duyen who triumphed over Thailand’s ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Tassamalee Thongjan. Tajikistan’s favourite London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Mavzuna Chorieva failed her quarter-final and had to travel back to home without any medal.

Women’s Middleweight class (75 kg):
Kazakhstan’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova controlled her quarter-final bout against Mongolia’s Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar and she could raise her rhythm against such a strong rival as DPR Korea’s last remained boxer Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Jang Un Hui in the semi-finals. The lone Kazakh women quota holder lost to China’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Li Qian in their repeat match and claimed silver in Qian’an. Chinese Taipei’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist 19-year-old Chen Nien Chin won the Box-off of the weight category.

Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg):
Mongolia’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner and defending ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai proved top performance against Qatar’s APB boxer Hakan Erseker, Japan’s last remained hope Daisuke Narimatsu in the semi-finals and bagged the expected Olympic quota in Qian’an. The 28-year-old Mongolian fought against Philippines’ Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Charly Suarez in the gold medal bout which was a tactical contest and Otgondalai was able to win that hectic bout. The third Olympic quota was achieved by Japan’s Daisuke Narimatsu who dominated his Box-off against China’s WSB boxer Shan Jun.

Men’s Light Welterweight class (64 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Abylaykhan Zhussupov was too strong for India’s Manoj Kumar, Korea’s Lim Hyun Chul, Australia’s David Biddle and China’s Hu Qianxun in the road to the finals in Qian’an. His final opponent was Mongolia’s World Military Games winner Battarsukh Chinzorig who was a competitive rival for the Kazakhs teenager bout could not stop his counter-attacks therefore Zhussupov has crowned in Qian’an. China’s Hu Qianxun also qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following his surprise triumph over Kyrgyzstan’s Ermek Sakenov in the Box-off.

Men’s Heavyweight class (91 kg):
Uzbekistan’s two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Rustam Tulaganov defeated his biggest rival New Zealand’s Commonwealth Games winner David Nyika in the quarter-final of the competition and following that he could beat another Oceanian athlete, Jason Whateley in Qian’an. Tulaganov walked over to the gold medal against China’s Yu Fengkai while Australia’s Jason Whateley surprisingly defeated Tajikistan’s last remained boxer two-time Olympian Jakhon Qurbonov in the important Box-off of the category. As Kazakhstan’s Vasiliy Levit qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games still in 2015 Asia has got three qualified boxers in this category.

Men’s Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg):
Kazakhstan’s London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Ivan Dychko dominated his battle against New Zealand’s Samoan-descent Patrick Mailata in the quarter-finals and the Seed No.1 secured the spot for Rio after beating Jordan’s lone medallist in Qian’an Hussein Iashaish in the semi-final. Dychko had to meet with his main Asian rival Uzbekistan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Bakhodir Jalolov in the gold medal bout. Kazakhstan’s Dychko won their fourth contest as well but the difference between them was really close today. The third Olympic quota was achieved by Jordan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Hussein Iashaish who boxed in different rhythm than Iran’s Abdulmajid Sepahvandi in Qian’an.
