AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event – Day6 Report

25 Asian boxers qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event today

After the rest day the semi-finals were held in the sixth competition day of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an, China. The winners of the women and men semi-finals have been qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and joined to the 13 Asian boxers who secured their spots in 2015. Uzbekistan has got now 11 quota places while Kazakhstan and China both 9-9 spots for Rio.

Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg):
Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting eliminated Thailand’s Peamwilai Laopeam in Qian’an and had to meet with Uzbekistan’s last woman boxer Yodgoroy Mirzaeva who shocked DPR Korea’s experienced Ri Hyang Mi in the quarter-finals. The Uzbek youngster was stronger and advanced to the final where she will now meet with China’s star Ren Cancan who defeated India’s Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte in the second semi-final of the competition.

Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg):
China’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Yin Junhua had to find out how can reach Vietnam’s taller Luu Thi Duyen in the semi-final of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event but she was successfully done this job. The 25-year-old Chinese boxer began boxing only in 2009 but a few years of experiences were enough to get the Olympic spot while she will now meets with Australia’s lone finalist Shelley Watts for the gold medal.

Women’s Middleweight class (75 kg):
Kazakhstan’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova controlled her quarter-final bout against Mongolia’s Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar and she could raise her rhythm against such a strong rival as DPR Korea’s last remained boxer Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Jang Un Hui in the semi-finals while China’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Li Qian defeated Chinese Taipei’s 19-year-old Chen Nien Chin in the second semi-final.

Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg):
Philippines’ AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Rogen Ladon was seeded as No.1 at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) and he needed to do his very best once more in the semi-finals to get the Olympic quota in Qian’an. The 22-year-old talent was too strong for India’s London 2012 Olympian Devendro Laishram Singh while Uzbekistan’s defending ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov eliminated Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganerdene in the second semi-final.

Men’s Flyweight class (52 kg):
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev eliminated a strong rival Mongolia’s Summer Universiade winner Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu in the quarter-final of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an but following that he was too tired to beat Uzbekistan’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Shakhobiddin Zoirov who stroked back to his previous loss. Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Champion Olzhas Sattibayev suffered a loss to China’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Hu Jianguan and will now meet in the box-offs against the Kyrgyz boxer.

Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg):
India’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Shiva Thapa was in top form in the entire competition and after his great success over Japan’s Arashi Morisaka in the quarter-finals, he defeated Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Kairat Yeraliyev in the semi-finals and bagged the Olympic spot in the city of Qian’an where he will now meet with Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Chatchai Butdee in the final who eliminated Philippines’ Southeast Asian Games winner Mario Fernandez.

Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg):
Mongolia’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner and defending ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai proved top performance against Qatar’s APB boxer Hakan Erseker and the Seed No.1 defeated Japan’s last remained hope Daisuke Narimatsu in the semi-finals. The 28-year-old Mongolian will be fighting against Philippines’ Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Charly Suarez who was too strong for China’s Shan Jun.

Men’s Light Welterweight class (64 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Abylaykhan Zhussupov was too strong for India’s Manoj Kumar, Korea’s Lim Hyun Chul and Australia’s David Biddle in the previous rounds in Qian’an. The 19-year-old super talented Kazakh boxer did not give any chance to China’s Hu Qianxun while Mongolia’s Battarsukh Chinzorig also qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following his triumph over Kyrgyzstan’s Ermek Sakenov in the second semi-final.

Men’s Welterweight class (69 kg):
Philippines’ ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Felix Eumir Marcial was the main favourite of the Welterweight class (69 kg) in Qian’an but due his hand injury he suffered a loss to Uzbekistan’s new national team member Shakhram Giyasov in the semi-final of the category. Thailand’s two-time Olympian Saylom Ardee had to work until the final bell against Mongolia’s Byamba Tuvshinbat to get his spot to Rio.

Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg):
Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion and Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Zhanibek Alimkhanuly overwhelmed Kyrgyzstan’s Ilyar Akhmetov in the quarter-final of the competition and he stopped also Mongolia’s Narmandakh Shinebayar in the last four following his lethal punches in the second round. The Kazakh star will now meet for the gold with China’s Zhao Minggang who delivered his third sensational wins over Australia’s Daniel Lewis in Qian’an.

Men’s Light Heavyweight class (81 kg):
Kazakhstan’s London 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist and Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Adilbek Niyazymbetov secured his place in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following his triumph over Turkmenistan’s powerful Azizbek Achilov and he will face for the gold medal with his main rival Uzbekistan’s star Elshod Rasulov in Qian’an. The box-off for the last quota place will be held between Azizbek Achilov and Kyrgyzstan’s Erkin Adylbek Uulu.

Men’s Heavyweight class (91 kg):
Uzbekistan’s two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Rustam Tulaganov defeated his biggest rival New Zealand’s Commonwealth Games winner David Nyika in the quarter-final of the competition and following that he could beat another Oceanian athlete, Jason Whateley in Qian’an. Tajikistan’s last remained boxer two-time Olympian Jakhon Qurbonov was surprisingly eliminated by China’s Yu Fengkai.

Men’s Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg):
Kazakhstan’s London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Ivan Dychko dominated his battle against New Zealand’s Samoan-descent Patrick Mailata in the quarter-finals and the Seed No.1 secured the spot for Rio after beating Jordan’s lone medallist in Qian’an Hussein Iashaish in the semi-final. Dychko’s main rival Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov was too quick for China’s Mou Haipeng in the quarter-finals and stopped Iran’s Abdulmajid Sepahvandi.

Day 7 Finals & Box-offs Schedule:
Twelve bouts will be held in the seventh competition day of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an, China where the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg), Men’s Flyweight class (52 kg), Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg), Men’s Welterweight class (69 kg), Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg) and Men’s Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) will be in action. The winners of the box-offs will be joining to the Rio 2016 Olympians.
