Abdumalik Khalakov enjoyed his quarter-final contest at the 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament

The second part of the quarter-finals were held in the 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria on Day5. Uzbekistan’s amazing boxer, Abdumalik Khalakov proved his developments since his last appearance and enjoyed his contest today.  

The Strandja Memorial is Europe’s oldest international boxing tournament and has a strong brand name therefore high number of stars decided to attend in the event. IBA arranged the money prizes and boxers could earn new world ranking points in the 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament.

Strong Asian teams as India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are attending at the upcoming Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, which is one of the most exciting competitions in the world. The new 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament is the first from the World Boxing Tour’s Golden Gloves Series and take place between February 18 and 28 in Sofia.

Impressive number of 39 nations registered to attend in the new edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia. The competition will be also a preparation event for the upcoming big goals as the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and many other continental events.

India’s Nitu is semi-finalist in Sofia

The Indian girls performed strongly in the previous four competition days at the 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament. The minimumweight (48kg) is always strong in India and their AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Nitu Ghanghas arrived to Sofia in her career’s top shape. The 21-year-old boxer controlled the first round against Italy’s Roberta Bonatti and took the lead on scorecards after three minutes. Nitu was able to increase her tempo and speed in the beginning of the second round and she had massive advantage after six minutes. The Indian boxer amazed all of the experts and judges with her impressive performance in Sofia.

India’s next semi-finalist is Nikhat Zareen

India’s Nikhat Zareen had tough contests with their six-times AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte in the recent years. The former AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion is now experienced in the elite age group and she is a key boxer in their national team. Zareen competes at the flyweight (52kg) in Sofia and met with England’s Charley Davison in the quarter-finals who caused a sensation in the previous stage of boxing. The Indian moved forward and showed her excellent technical repertoires in their contest today. Zareen was better in all aspects of boxing and she defeated a Tokyo Olympian boxer in the fifth day of the Strandja Memorial.

Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan defeated a Russian rival

Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Makhmud Sabyrkhan is only 20-year-old but he is the main favourite at the men’s bantamweight (54kg) in Sofia. He had a few difficulties in the first round against Russia’s Maksim Chernyshev but from the second, he managed to control the bout. Sabyrkhan has done superb performance in the second and third rounds against the progressed Russian and celebrated his victory after the final gong of their quarter-final. His compatriot, ASBC Asian Youth Champion 18-year-old Abzal Serik technically dominated his quarter-final against Bulgaria’s Kirill Rusinov and advanced to the last four at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg).

Uzbekistan’s Tursunoy Rakhimova collected a big scalp today

Uzbekistan’s Tokyo Olympian Tursunoy Rakhimova will be turning 25 this year and she is now one of the most promising boxers at the women’s flyweight (52kg). She won the Uzbek Elite National Championships in December and spent her time in training camps in the recent weeks. Rakhimova was highly competitive against Russia’s EUBC European Women’s Champion tall Svetlana Soluyanova in the first round and surprised her opponent. The Russian used her height advantage but Rakhimova was quicker and jumped into the best fighting range with perfect timing. The Uzbek boxer not only won all of the rounds but she defeated the most powerful boxer during her whole career.

Abdumalik Khalakov enjoyed his quarter-final contest on Day5

Uzbekistan sent a huge delegation to the Strandja Memorial Tournament and their most successful boxer from the last AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships, Abdumalik Khalakov impressed in the fifth day of boxing. The 21-year-old Uzbek won all of the three big youth championships in 2018 and currently he is one of the best boxers in the world. He used his tricky style against Kazakhstan’s Orazbek Assylkulov in the first round and the Uzbek was untouchable in that period. Khalakov enjoyed all moments during his lightweight (60kg) quarter-final and eliminated his neighbouring rival. His teammate, Mujibullo Tursunov caught Bulgaria’s EUBC European Junior Champion Krasimir Dzhurov with tough shots and enjoyed his clear success at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
