Philippines’ women duo Josie Gabuco and Nesthy Petecio amazed in the second day of the Kapolri Cup

The second edition of the Kapolri Cup continued in the city of Manado where 14 champions will be crowned after the day of the finals. Philippines’ strong women duo such as former AIBA Women’s World Champion Josie Gabuco and their current No.1 Nesthy Petecio both amazed the crowd in the second competition day.
The Indonesians are preparing hard to the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in their capital city in Jakarta therefore their best hopes are near to their peak performance. The boxing tournament of the Asian Games will be starting on August 22 and the Indonesians are hoping to get at least one medal in our sport.
Altogether 70 women and 88 men boxers were there in the general weigh-in and after the drawing ceremony the first session has done in Manado. The women boxers can attend in six different weight classes from the light flyweight (48kg) up to the light welterweight (64kg). The men participants are fighting in eight categories from the pinweight (46kg) up to the middleweight (75kg).
Australia, Chinese Taipei, host Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are attending in the second edition of the Kapolri Cup in Manado with women and men boxers as well.
Indonesia’s Angelina Niis attended in a few international tournaments previously and she was able to keep her focus on the ball until the end of the final gong. Niis, who moved back to the light flyweight (48kg), impressed against her teammate Zalza Nabila Amoragam and won their bout by unanimous decision.
Philippines’ Josie Gabuco was gold medallist in the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao but after that she had several difficulties. Gabuco returned to the international stage this year in top shape and eliminated Vietnam’s Trinh Thi Kieu Diem with strong performance during her debut at the Kapolri Cup.
Sri Lanka’s Keshani Hansika attended in the Commonwealth Games and she is member of the national team since 2013 therefore she was too experienced for Indonesia’s Stella Maala at the women’s featherweight (57kg). Vietnam’s former AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion Vuong Thi Vy was also impressed in that category and eliminated Singapore’s Nur Sabrina Binte Mohamed Faizal in Manado.
Philippines’ AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Nesthy Petecio also proved the same strong performance as Josie Gabuco and she eliminated Thailand’s Nilawan Techaseup winning all of the rounds in each scorecard. In the same featherweight (57kg) Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Christina Marwan Jembay dominated her opening contest against her compatriot Ratna Seri Dem.
Japan’s Ryusei Baba was quarter-finalist in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and currently he is his country’s best men’s flyweight (52kg) boxer. The 22-year-old Japanese boxer had to meet as first with Indonesia’s Rahul Buamona and he was able to control their contest until the last gong.
Philippines’ AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Rogen Ladon moved up to the flyweight (52kg) only in the recent half year and he is trying to get his place to the country’s Asian Games squad. The 25-year-old Filipino star dominated the first two rounds against Indonesia’s Prasetio and following his knock downs the referee confirmed his RSC success in the third.
Malaysia’s Arfiqanie Ahmad Bin Anshori attended already in the Singapore 2015 Southeast Asian Games and has done his debut at the lightweight (60kg). The 22-year-old Malaysian boxer found the best fighting range against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Po Yi and marched into the next round of the Kapolri Cup.
