Chinese Taipei’s ASBC Women’s Champion Lin Yu Ting impressed in the first day of the Kapolri Cup
The second edition of the Kapolri Cup has begun in the city of Manado where 14 champions will be crowned after the day of the finals. Chinese Taipei’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Lin Yu Ting impressed in the first competition day and stopped her Indonesian rival in the city of Manado where an AIBA 2-star R&J Course is also running.
The Indonesians are preparing hard to the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in their capital city in Jakarta therefore their best hopes are near to their peak performance. The boxing tournament of the Asian Games will be starting on August 22 and the Indonesians are hoping to get at least one medal in our sport.
Altogether 70 women and 88 men boxers were there in the general weigh-in and after the drawing ceremony the first session has done in Manado. The women boxers can attend in six different weight classes from the light flyweight (48kg) up to the light welterweight (64kg). The men participants are fighting in eight categories from the pinweight (46kg) up to the middleweight (75kg).
Australia, Chinese Taipei, host Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are attending in the second edition of the Kapolri Cup in Manado with women and men boxers as well.
Australia’s Taylah Robertson claimed bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and she is a top hope at the bantamweight (54kg). The defending Australian National Champion moved up one category but she was still enough strong to land tough punches against Indonesia’s Sheryl Kasse in Manado which delivered for her a place in the next stage.
Chinese Taipei’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion at the bantamweight (54kg) Lin Yu Ting impressed in the first competition day in Manado. The 23-year-old hope used her longer reach from the first seconds against Indonesia’s Karmila and she dominated their fight. Lin was technically better but the bout was decided by her strength and the referee confirmed her RSC success in the second round.
Japan’s Mizuki Hiruta defeated three tough boxers in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup and finally she claimed silver medal at the featherweight (57kg) in Astana. The young Japanese girl, who claimed silver also in the 2017 Taipei City Cup, controlled all of the rounds against Indonesia’s experienced Veronica Nicolas and celebrated her success by unanimous decision after the last gong.
Philippines’ National Games winner Ramel Macado received the right to box in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup a few weeks ago which was his first international tournament out of his country. The young Filipino light flyweight (49kg) boxer used the best fighting distance against Indonesia’s Alviandi Teleng and won his opening bout in Manado City.
