Mr. Sultan Yousif Al Harami – “UAE’s participation here in Bangkok means a lot for us and the first step to our future 2024 goals”

United Arab Emirates never competed in the history of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships but their team is here in Bangkok with three boxers. We asked the team manager of the United Arab Emirates boxing delegation Mr. Sultan Yousif Al Harami about the historical participation and preparation to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
“We began our preparation to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships nearly five months ago last December when we joined to an international training camp in Uzbekistan. Our best youth boxers attended in the Arab Youth Boxing Championships in Cairo in the first days of February and we took part in a very successful and strong training camp in Havana, Cuba just before the start of the event.
I can underline it our key moment in the preparation was the training camp in Cuba where we recognized our boxers developed rapidly. We did not have any wins in the previous editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in the past and we started to build up a new team to have a good reputation and to achieve one medal in Bangkok. We hope also to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games but the qualification process is so difficult for us.
Personally I think it will be the strongest ever ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships following the drawing. The number of the participants is the highest in the history of the event and all of the attending countries prepared the boxers well to the competition so I believe we will see the Asian future in Bangkok.
Our President in the UAE Boxing Federation Mr. Anas Al Otaiba and his board members made a strategic plan for the next years until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where our objective is to win a medal. That is the main reason we began to build up a new team and we have got the full support from all levels of our governing body.
We are preparing now also to the Asian Games with our elite boxers where our plan is to compete with five boxers and get a medal for our country. We have got currently 150 boxers in the United Arab Emirates and the participation here in Bangkok means a lot for us and one of our opening steps to our goals,”
said Mr. Sultan Yousif Al Harami in Bangkok just before the start of the first competition day.
“It is my honour to represent my country and participates in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships at the very first time. I think this event will be the strongest ever youth competition in Asia. I hope it will be successful for all participants and we hope our preparations were enough to reach the semi-final stage of the event,” added their coach Mr. Mohamad Al Shible.
