Malaysian Boxing Federation’s leading official Mr. Wan Abdul Hamid is the Executive Committee member of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) who arrived to Bangkok to visit the performance of the boxers in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
We asked Mr. Wan Abdul Hamid about Malaysia’s participation in the upcoming events and their future goals including the important Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Kuala Lumpur in the second part of August.
“The current ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships is a quite meaningful event here in Bangkok. We could see the top Asian nations such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are still maintaining their power but India and Thailand are seen as their future challenger in Bangkok.
The Malaysian boxing team has been preparing hard to the upcoming Southeast Asian Games which is our next main event. Everything is going according to our plans so we are looking forward the start of the boxing tournament of the Southeast Asian Games. Our boxers are still in the training camp in Almaty, Kazakhstan and they can prepare in top environment to the Southeast Asian Games.
The Malaysia Cup is scheduled end of July which is more or less as testing event for our Southeast Asian Games in terms of its technical and venue preparation. The Malaysian Golden Gloves Tournament, our next main national elite event will be held only after the Southeast Asian Games.
I am expecting from our team one gold medal in the boxing tournament of the Southeast Asian Games. Muhammad Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan (49kg) and Abdul Salam Kasim (52kg) are our main favourites in the event. A title would be very important for the Malaysian Boxing Federation to raise our governmental support.
In longer terms everything depends on our results in the Southeast Asian Games but we are trying to keep continuing our impulse to the Commonwealth Games,”
said Mr. Wan Abdul Hamid to our questions in Bangkok.
