The fifth edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup continued with its second competition day in Astana, Kazakhstan where Philippines proved a superb competition day. In the second competition day of the event the women elite boxers also could start their road to the finals in Astana.
Kazakhstan’s two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay moved up to the flyweight (51kg) in the recent months once again due the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 24-year-old Kazakh star met with Philippines’ Irish Magno who was competitive rival for her in their contest but finally Kyzaibay’s hand was raised.
Kyzaibay’s main rival at the flyweight (51kg) could be her teammate, AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Zhaina Shekerbekova who also started well enough against Uzbekistan’s Chinggis Khan Cup winner 20-year-old Tursunoy Rakhimova. The Kazakh boxer used an aggressive tactic in their contest and advanced to the next stage of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup.
Philippines’ AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Nesthy Petecio moved up to the lightweight (60kg) to acclimatize in the first year of the new Olympic era. The Filipino boxer was too smart and too quick for Kazakhstan’s Ulbala Almenova therefore Petecio was able to win their contest by large margin of difference.
Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko received the right to box in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana but she was not able to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The lightweight (60kg) boxer returned in top shape, won the Kazakh National Championships and started well enough against Uzbekistan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Yodgoroy Mirzaeva in the first women’s competition day.
Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist and defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova was excellent in her debuting contest against Uzbekistan’s Nafisakhon Askarova who competed in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana. The Uzbek middleweight (75kg) boxer developed well in the recent two years but her current skills are not enough yet to beat Shakimova.
Kazakhstan’s National Championships bronze medallist Zhanbolat Kydyrbayev delivered the main sensation of the second competition day with his success over Uzbekistan’s Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov. His Uzbek bantamweight (56kg) opponent has got 6-0 record in the World Series of Boxing and won the gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games but Kydyrbayev exceeded the previous expectations with his top performance.
Philippines’ Mario Fernandez amazed the crowd in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games where he won a bronze medal and following his increased training sessions he returned in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Astana. The Filipino bantamweight (56kg) boxer controlled his bout against Kazakhstan’s Madiyar Zhanuzakov and his amazing stamina was enough to advance to the next round.
Kazakhstan’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Sultan Zaurbek claimed bronze medal in the Islamic Solidarity Games but he proved top performance in Baku and started strongly also in Astana where he defeated Kazakhstan’s WSB boxer Meirbolat Toitov by 4-1 in their lightweight (60kg) bout.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sulaymon Latipov moved up three weight classes in the recent three years. The 20-year-old Uzbek lightweight (60kg) boxer was in different level than Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Rustamov and also secured his place in the next stage as Kazakhstan’s top duo Sultan Zaurbek and Adilet Kurmetov.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Abilkhan Amankul lost only one contest in the recent two years therefore he arrived as the favourite of the middleweight (75kg). The 19-year-old super talented WSB star knocked down Iran’s veteran Amin Ghasemipour and advanced to the next stage of the event.
