Four AIBA Women’s World Champions won the title in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Championships
The Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships was held in Astana where top bouts were held between their stars. Their four defending AIBA Women’s World Champions as Nazym Kyzaibay, Dina Zholaman, Valentina Khalzova and Lazzat Kungeibayeva all won their weight classes in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships.
Astana hosted the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in May 2016 and several Kazakh heroes returned to the venue. Altogether 85 female elite boxers attended in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships in Astana. Eight boxers out of the possible ten were able to defend their national titles in Astana.
The event was the first selection for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in November.
The first gold medal of the event was achieved by AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Alua Balkybekova who had to meet in the final with the favourite of the nationals, Alina Turlubayeva. Balkybekova’s opponent won the recent two editions but this time the titleholder was defeated by her younger rival in the final of the light flyweight (48kg).
Two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay and Rio 2016 Olympian Zhaina Shekerbekova was the highlight of the Olympic flyweight (51kg). Both boxers met each other in the recent three years several times and following those contests this time Kyzaibay’s hand was raised after the last gong.
Defending AIBA Women’s World Champion Dina Zholaman had to meet in the final of the bantamweight (54kg) with her main rival Aida Tuyakbay. Zholaman lost to her opponent in a competition a few months ago but this time she was more patient, prepared well and her tactic delivered to her a gold medal in the bout.
AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nazym Ishchanova moved down to the featherweight (57kg) and competed well enough in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships in Astana. Ishchanova, who will be turning to 20 only later this year, eliminated Dametken Kelimbet in the semi-final and triumphed over Saniya Sultankyzy in the final of the event.
Rimma Volosenko received the right to box for Kazakhstan at the lightweight (60kg) in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana which was a surprise when their head coach Mr. Vadim Prysiazhniuk selected the squad. Volosenko arrived to the national event in top form and she was able to beat talented Karina Ibragimova in the gold medal bout in Astana.
Madina Nurshayeva is member of the national team since 2015 who attended also in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Wulanchabu. The light welterweight (64kg) boxer defended her throne after beating Zarina Tsoloyeva and Aliya Abdraimova in the last two rounds of the event.
Valentina Khalzova won the gold medal at the welterweight (69kg) in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana and dominated her contests in the National Championships. The young Kazakh talent defeated former AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Gaukhar Yermekbay and 19-year-old Bayan Akbayeva in the final stages of the national competition in Astana.
Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist and defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova returned to the world of boxing after the August’s event and won her next national title at the middleweight (75kg). The experienced boxer was enough accurate in the final against AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Violetta Knyazeva to defend her national throne.
Moldir Bazarbayeva has been competing in the international level since 2010 and reached the top level of the light heavyweight (81kg) in the recent two years. The 26-year-old boxer defeated promising young talent Fariza Shaltay by split decision in the final while AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Yulduz Mamatkulova claimed only bronze medal in the event.
Defending AIBA Women’s World Champion Lazzat Kungeibayeva is the key boxer of the heavyweight (+81kg) in the globe who has been preparing to get her first Asian title later this year. Firstly she won the Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships in Astana where her younger rivals such as Togzhan Syzdykova and Umida Sadykova were not enough competitive against her.
