President of the Syrian Boxing Federation Mr. Issa Al-Nassar is the Executive Committee Member of the Asian Boxing Confederation who shared with us his thoughts about boxing in Syria. The country reached amazing results in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent where all of their five boxers advanced to the quarter-finals.
“This is an amazing ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championship in Tashkent as we expected. Asia is strong in boxing and we are hoping all of our 60 boxers will have the chance to get great results in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. We all knew before the start of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships that Tashkent will be a perfect host.
We are so thankful for ASBC President Mr. Serik Konakbayev and also for the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation to support us in the venue. As I am referee I am following the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships a bit different way.
We could send five boxers to Tashkent and all of them advanced to the quarter-final and this is the best ever performance in an Asian Boxing Championships in our boxing history. We are so proud of our elite boxers and their hard work in the preparation paid off here in Uzbekistan.
We will be also sending four athletes to the upcoming Islamic Games which will be held in Baku this month. Our life is not so easy in Syria during our crisis but we are trying to focusing to our job and develop boxing in my country. Our boxers can train in the normal way only in Damascus and near to the capital while other region’s athletes have got hard to find the way to train in their clubs.
We hosted the Syrian National Boxing Championships on February with a success while we have done also our Youth National Championships and selected four boxers to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships to Pattaya where we hope our strong Ammar Haidar will be getting medal.
The Syrian Junior National Championships will be held this Summer and we will be able to send also four boxers to the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships to Davao City in August. Furthermore, we will have Schoolboys National Championships also this Summer.
The first edition of the Syrian Women’s National Championships was held in 2011 and luckily after our issues we were able to host our second female competition a few months ago and hopefully our ladies can return to the international events,”
said Mr. Issa Al-Nassar in the venue of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
