Khan, Teo and Boy were the top winners at the Penang Pesta Tournament

The 36th edition of the Penang Pesta International Tournament delivered great female and male finals in Malaysia where Khan, Teo and Boy impressed during the title contests.

Malaysia was the host of the new Penang Pesta Tournament as in the previous editions as well. The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the region hosted several national competition and international events in the last decade.

The Penang Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1951 and their staff has been organizing the Penang Pesta Tournament since 1989.

The elite male boxers were able to compete in the following weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg and 92kg.

The women boxers could compete in two weight categories and a promising pugilist, Subashini Sievea was the first winner at the minimumweight (48kg) in Penang after beating Janessa Jenyet by unanimous decision.

Another young female talent, Anna Valentini Tie dominated her final over Nur Izwani Shahiera Binte Mohamed Suhaimi at the women’s flyweight (52kg) and she stopped her opponent in the first round. 

Penang’s male hope, Muhammad Mukhriz Khan landed the better punches in the first round than Muhammad Nazran Bin Abdullah and he took the lead on the judges’ scorecards. The local boy was unstoppable in the second round and the referee confirmed his RSC victory in the final of the men’s minimumweight (48kg).

Muhammad Ashriq Ryan Bin Rosli won already some Malaysian national competitions and he started well against Penang’s Ashabul Yamin Bin Abdul Samad. The Malaysian national team member had to do his very best but finally he won the title of the men’s flyweight (51kg) in the Penang Pesta.

Singapore’s Clayden Teo Han Shern controlled the first round against Indonesia’s Muhammad Maulana but he could still increase his speed in the second which delivered for him a stoppage and a title at the men’s bantamweight (54kg). 

Indonesia’s Sumatra-based Ruben Napitupulu lost to Malaysia’s Syafi Syamil Bin Ahmad Faizal at the featherweight (57kg), but his teammate, Daniel Fernando Limbong succeeded at the lightweight (60kg) in Penang.

Hallary Boy represented Malaysia already in the level of the Asian Championships and he was too strong for Muhammad Yunus at the welterweight (67kg). Singapore’s Benjamin Ryan Lee managed a superb performance at the middleweight (75kg), he bagged the title after beating Hareshan Rachvendra.
