The Penang Pesta International Tournament is underway in Malaysia

The 36th edition of the Penang Pesta International Tournament is underway for the U22 boxers in the picturesque island and the event started with fourteen bouts.
Malaysia is be the host of the new Penang Pesta Tournament as in the previous editions as well. The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the region hosted several national competition and international events in the last decade.
The Penang Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1951 and their staff has been organizing the Penang Pesta Tournament since 1989.
Penang’s best hope Pavithran Rajini Kanth, and further Malaysian national team members as Mohamad Rizal Bin Wahibi and Muhammad Ariff Aiman Bin Mohamed Faris earned titles at the last 35th Penang Pesta International Tournament one year ago.
The elite male boxers are able to compete in the following weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg and 92kg.
The minimumweight (48kg) is a top category in the event and a Malaysian boxer, Muhammad Haziq Bin Mohamed Nizam started well enough against Singapore’s new face in the national team, Muhammed Nasim.
Penang’s local boy, Muhammad Adam and another Malaysian boxer at the minimumweight (48kg), Muhammad Airil Ashraf Bin Mohamed Yuzamry both decided their contest in the first round with stoppages.
The flyweight (51kg) delivered great battles in the opening session, Muhammad Ashriq Ryan Bin Rosli had a split decision success over Singapore’s Hans Harris Bin Mohamad Yusran while Penang’s Ashabul Yamin Bin Abdullah Samad also won his opener against Zul Iman Danial in the same way, 4:1 on the judges’ scorecards.
Syafi Syamil Bin Ahmad Faizal started the first round strongly against Penang’s local talent, Muhammad Ezzaniey Bin Idris and his powerful combinations decided their featherweight (57kg) contest in the second with a stoppage.
Singapore’s Nur Muhammad Maatin Abdul Ghaffar does not have serious international routine yet but the young hope enjoyed a clear pathway to the next stage of the light middleweight (71kg) against Muhammad Amirul Shah Bin Abdullah.
