Tajikistan will compete with maximum number of 13 boxers in Dubai

Tajikistan will compete with maximum number of 13 boxers at the upcoming IBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships which will be held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on December 2-13.

Tajikistan’s coaches as Mr. Mansurkhuja Mamurov, Mr. Ali Bobodzhanov, Mr. Parviz Akhmadov, and their former national boxer, Mr. Khurshed Djurayev selected the team and arranged the sessions in Dushanbe.

The teams can arrive to Dubai on November 30, the first competition day is December 3 while the finals are schedule to be held on December 13.

The total prize money of the IBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships will be 8.32 million US dollars and the best 104 boxers can earn these amounts in Dubai.

The multiple National Champion Mekhron Shafiyev moved back to the minimumweight (48kg) and the 23-year-old boxer is a medal favourite in Dubai. The CIS Junior Games winner Mekhroj Sufijonov is another young talent in the squad who claimed medals in the Asian U22 Championships during his career.

Anushervon Fazylov is the defending Asian U22 Champion and he will represent Tajikistan at the bantamweight (54kg). Another Asian U22 medallist, Khusravkhon Rakhimov competed a lot in Kazakhstan to develop in all aspects of boxing.

Akmal Ubaydov was the surprise gold medallist in the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai and he can show his impressive technical skills once again. Ruslan Gafurov is only 19-year-old but he claimed his first Asian medal already in 2019 as a schoolboy talent in Kuwait City and he replaced Bakhodur Usmonov in the squad.

Shamsher Saidov moved back to Tajikistan successfully and the welterweight (67kg) boxer is ready to achieve his career highlight in Dubai. Dovud Makhkamov competed in the last edition of the World Boxing Championships in Tashkent and he has the routine among the elite boxers.

Shokhobzhon Shukurov returned to Tajikistan as Saidov and he showed his extraordinary skills at the 2024 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Nekruz Salimov joined the international stage of boxing still in 2015 and he could be a surprise boxer at the light heavyweight (80kg).

The Asian Championships silver medallist Parviz Karimov moved down to the cruiserweight (86kg) this year to achieve the best result in Dubai. Navruz Jafoev achieved a silver medal at the 2013 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman and the 36-year-old veteran returned to the squad after a break.

The 26-year-old Davlat Boltayev is Tajikistan’s top star, the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games winner moved up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) but he could be one of the sensations and gold medal contenders in this category.
