Fantastic female boxers at the Vietnam National Championships

The Vietnam Boxing Federation’s National Elite & Youth Boxing Championships delivered fantastic female finals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City hosted the ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in 2017 which delivered the real breakthrough for their female boxers. Vietnam earned gold medals at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka this May.

The pinweight (45kg) is the smallest category in Vietnam’s female boxing and their Nguyen Thi Anh Thur of Hung Yen bagged the title in Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi’s ASBC Asian Elite Championships silver medallist Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi not only advanced to the final of the minimumweight (48kg) but she defeated Hoang Ngoc Phuong Uyen of Thai Nguyen.

An Giang’s Le Hai Au caused one of the main surprises in the National Championships when she eliminated Lao Cai’s Asian U22 Champion Song Thi Kim Ngan in the quarter-finals of the light flyweight (50kg) and Nguyen Chau Kieu Chi was not able to stop her for the gold.

Hanoi’s boxing icon, the Asian Champion Nguyen Thi Tam returned to the events after a serious injury and she claimed the title of the women’s flyweight (52kg) after beating an another international boxer, Nguyen Thi Kim Sang of An Giang.

An Giang’s star, and Vietnam’s next top female boxer, the 29-year-old Vo Thi Kim Anh was too smart and technician for Vu Thi Manh Trang from Ho Chi Minh City and she earned the title of the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in the Nationals.

Hanoi’s strong Ngo Thi Mai Chuc had the routine to beat Nguyen Thi Thanh Hao of Ho Chi Minh City at the women’s featherweight (57kg). Another local boxer from the host city, Nguyen Thi Kim Yen succeeded over Thanh Hoa’s Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh and she bagged the gold medal at the women’s lightweight (60kg).

Hanoi’s next ace, the Asian Championships silver medallist Ha Thi Linh is already 32-year-old but she is still quick in her footwork to beat younger opponents such as Nguyen Thi Mai at the women’s light welterweight (63kg).

An Giang’s Luong Thi Ngoan was too strong for the capital city’s Do Thi Linh Chi at the welterweight (66kg) while Hanoi’s trio such as Ca Thi Huyen (70kg), Luu Diem Quynh (75kg), and Nguyen Thi Huong (81kg) were also claimed gold medals in the event.
