Meylis Akmyradov and Arslan Rejepov won the strongest categories at the Turkmenistan Schoolboys National Championships

Fifteen young talents claimed their titles at the Turkmenistan Boxing Federation’s event, the Turkmenistan Schoolboys National Championships which saw 188 bouts in the city of Mary where altogether 203 boxers competed for the prizes.

Mary was founded from the ruins of the ancient abandoned city Merv in 1884 and it is located in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan. The oasis city of Mary is the capital of the Mary region and it is off the coast of the Murgab river.

The boxers from 2011 and the 2012 age groups were eligible to participate in the Turkmenistan Schoolboys National Championships.

The 43kg weight class was the most popular in the Schoolboys National Championships with the participation of 23 boxers. There were 20 boxers in the 52kg weight category and record-breaking 17 pugilists at the +70kg division.

Boxers from all regions and cities of Turkmenistan such as Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary are participating in the Schoolboys National Championships in the city of Mary. 

Turkmenistan’s international winner and Asian Champion Atabek Hojyyev, the most experienced schoolboy in this age group, had to miss the National Championships due to his serious injury.

The boxers at the 33kg are always strong in Turkmenistan in this age group and a local boxer, Meylis Akmyradov defeated his main rival in the semi-finals, Suleyman Ruziyev and he followed his winning path against Mukhammet Kerimov in the final.

Lebap region’s Yhlas Abdyrahmanov won all of his four contests at the 35kg weight class which was another strong category in the national event. Abdyrahmanov defeated Dashoguz region’s Kerim Hekimalyyev in the final and he proved one of the top performances in Mary.

Dashoguz region’s Arslan Rejepov is only 14-year-old but he has already international experience from this year. Rejepov also won four tough contests in the national event and he defeated Ashgabat’s B. Kuvvadov for the title of the 37kg weight class.

Lebap region’s Zaurjan Jambayev was not named as the main favourite of the 40kg weight category but he defeated all of his four rivals including Shageldi Nurmuhammedov of Mary in to take the gold medal while Ashgabat’s No.1, Muhammetaly Serdarov claimed only a bronze medal this time.

Mary’s Agajuma Bazarov kept the title of the 61kg weight class in the host city after beating K. Shokhradov of Lebap in the final. Ashgabat’s Shamuhammet Kosayev dominated the 67kg final over Mary’s Y. Gulov and earned a well-deserved gold medal.
