The Vietnam Elite & Youth National Championships started in Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnam Boxing Federation’s next competition, their National Elite & Youth Boxing Championships is underway in Ho Chi Minh City and several top contests were already featured in the preliminaries and quarter-finals.
Vietnam started the year with their Strong Teams National Championships and followed that a competition for the younger age groups this summer.
Ho Chi Minh City hosted the ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in 2017 which delivered the real breakthrough for their female boxers. Vietnam earned gold medals at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka this May.
Vietnam has excellent boxers at the women’s minimumweight (48kg) and Hanoi’s ASBC Asian Elite Championships silver medallist Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi is the main favourite for the gold medal in the national event.
Lao Cai’s Song Thi Kim Ngan also exceeded her previous expectations and she triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Myrzakul in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships. The new ASBC Asian U22 Champion competes at the light flyweight (50kg) in the National Championships and she started her campaign in the Nationals against Le Hai Au of An Giang.
An Giang’s star, and Vietnam’s top female boxer, Vo Thi Kim Anh won the Thailand Open Tournament in 2022 and she qualified also for the Olympics. The experienced female boxer has brilliant technical skills and she proved that against Quang Tri’s Vu Cao Nhur Yen and Hanoi’s Do Thi Thuy at the women’s bantamweight (54kg).
The women’s elite bantamweight (54kg) is a strong category in the National Championships, and one of their promising boxers, Huynh Thi Vu Duyen of Quang Ngai proved her progress against Hung Yen’s Pham Thi Tam.
Hanoi’s Ha Thi Linh achieved a silver medal at the 2024 edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The 32-year-old veteran decided to continue her career and she was too smart for Doan Huyen Vy at the light welterweight (63kg).
Vietnam has mostly top boxers in the smaller categories but the women’s light heavyweight (81kg) is strong in the National Championships with the participation of eight experienced boxers including Hanoi’s Nguyen Thi Huong and the local talent, Pham Thi Hang.
